Hey everyone im new to this forum but it looks to be one of the best for the music im into. got a query about dj setups for deep house with all the hype surround the xone 4d and other such ableton controllers such as the vcm600.. thinking of investing in one, i had a look at the demos on youtube and the djs that use them all seem to be in the techhouse/techno/minimal genres. Does any of the top djs of our genre use one of these? i know most of them use rotary mixers (Danny Krivit, Dennis Ferrer, Kerri Chandler etc) so i would like your thoughts on what the ideal set up would be for djing house music whether it be digitally, maunally or a mixture. thanks.

I don't think there is any ideal set-up for any sort of music... Just as long as you mix from your heart and soul it doesn't matter what equipment you use, it's how you use it..

It all depends on how you wanna mix, and if you want to beat match or let a computer beat-match for you, and if you wanna tap buttons on a keyboard or flick through cd wallets or vynil boxes..

You can still get the same effect on mixing with a rotary mixer or fader mixer, it just all depends on how and what speed you twist the knobs or push the faders up.. Check how martinez bros use a rotary mixer, they do not use it for smooth blending, they just use it as if it were a fader mixer...

Check karizma and martinez bros, they break alot of 'deep & soulful house rules'... Be original is all i can say, it's not always about the smoothest mixing. It's always abotu creating a feeling

I think ableton is perfect for if you are a producer and you want to drop different elements of your tracks in the mix.. check out henrik schwarz and how he uses it!
