I was sitting up last night reflecting on some shit.I thought about some of the convos I had with PK and Kai on a trip out to NYC one year.I think about what PK was talking about with this shit changing.
He was right on so many accounts. There are so many damn blind faithful folks out here they can't smell the shit because the are fooling themselves into thinking it's roses.
Folks thinking it's cool to just party and not even socialize. Not a care if there's no new blood,no new music,no boundaries being pushed,no ladies at a straight event.
No wonder most folks think house is gay, there's a bunch of dudes hanging around.A damn cockfest is more enjoyable to some folks.I'm sorry, that's some sick shit.I can hear music at the crib.
When I go out, even though I'm married,I like to people watch.I do not like to watch dudes.I do not like to be in a room filled with nothing but hard legs, and I have even partied with the best of the queens. My point is I knew what I was getting when I went to a queen party.I should not get that at a straight party.Somethings wrong.
maybe I just see shit different, but now I see why sometimes women go to house sets and see nothing but dudes,dj's, and more dudes.I understand why they ask is it a gay party...

So you think the way to "un-gay" it is to let men run wild and grind against women the way they used to? That's going to bring it back?
More like that's going to ensure it remains a "cock fest." Why don't you take an informal poll of the women on here? Ask them if they'd go to a club where strange men are grinding their crotches against them all night...

Rich, you know the points I am trying to make.Like I stated before,if it's not a boy party, why make one out to be.It ain't about macking on all of the women at a set,but damn,it sholl would be nice to have some fair balance.
This shit is turning to a pissing contest with nothing but nerdy ass dj's.Cats bragging about music and whatnot. It's turning into a damn Star Trek convention.
Hell, your get together had a fair share of folks right? Some of everybody. That's just how a party should be.Hell sometimes, yeah I go out just for the music, but I don't want to be in a set full of dudes and dj's.When the women do come, they see this shit and leave.

Not sayin' shit tio them ..girls on one side boys on the other like a grade school sock hop. So why would they stay? Yeah I like balance too but I don't base my good time on the amount of women that were there. It's about the energy at the party for me. Yeah there were a lot of women but the music was weak...don't fly with me. I am a MUSIC JUNKIE.

Rich, you hit it.Dudes just wanna stand around...and listen to the music....Damn shame.
Like I said,it's all about a balance and turning folks on to something.I guess I'm getting tired of seeing folks fight over scraps.Keep up beefs over bullshit, when we ain't got shit anyways.
Folks with their asses on their shoulders and they ain't doing shit. This just adds to all of the other bullshit why things are tough now.
Bitter as people who missed chances, folks keeping up bullshit to get a rep,it's all old and is a reason we are in the state we are in.
Phuck it,I'm just gonna take a breather from things around here because some of the folks here are dreamers and I'm not a dreamer.

Jaimie that's just it..ya gotta make sure that YOU party the way that YOU like. Ya can't be the one that tries to save House. If people did their own thing instead of worrying about how others do there thing you'd be surprised a lot of people would be happy ( no my bad some just like to bitch). When you make sure that you party is straight and everybody made sure that their party was cool then we would have a bunch of parties to choose from. But there is no one way to do it people go out for different reasons. I can't discredit anyone for getting down the way they choose to get down. Why even worry about what everybody else is doing? Make your own world solid. This is not rocket science it's just a party. If people wanna dream let them, if they wanna talk shit let them, if they aint doin' shit so be it just make sure that YOU are doing your part to make sure that you can party the way you wanna.

If you have women the guys will come and then the music gets them to stay. Now to make the venue keep you, you will also need to drinkers.
Rich I get that your past the piont that you don't need to go out chasing skirts to have a good time.. But if you want new blood in the scene, you will need to get more ladies interested in the party... This does't mean that men get a free pass at grabbing ass.. and freaking you on the dancefloor(unless you want to be freaked ;) ) but we all know it takes women to make the party last more than a few months.. Damn it, the sooner you see we rule the better off you will be... :D

MYOR when the women are at the parties in Chicago half the time the guys don't even interact with them(there are a few exceptions of course). The women are standing around like "What's up with these men in here")? The guys are all huddled together just looking and too afraid to aproach them for whatever reason. The girls don't come back for a second chance. Then ya have NO women the next time because the women will go where the men at least dance with them. A bunch of industry cats standing around trying to look important and posing and shit. Yeah word will spread about a party with a bunch of eye candy but it don't really make the party any more livelier in these cases. People just talking but put the hotties up in the joint and see what happens...nothing!!

Okay, this one is deep.
***PHILISOPHICAL POINT OF VIEW REQUIRED***
The reason why there are a bunch of eunuchs in the party, no one is drinking, women who are "unapproachable (what does this mean, BTW?)" and the vibe is one notch above a funeral is because...
...get this...
...INTENTION!
Think about other events, such as concerts, music festivals, film festivals, awards shows, weddings...there is a simple and powerfully defined INTENTION for the event.
Maybe David Mancuso's parties are the best in NYC because HIS INTENTIONS match his effort, hm? Lil Ray - what was your intention for the Jamboree? Was this intention the standard for all the planning, promoting, performing?
The vibe is the responsibility of the ORGANIZER/PROMOTER...and if their intentions are murky, undefined or on some ol' self-aggrandizment shit, it's going to suck - no matter who is playing and who attends.

The "boys on one side, girls on the other," 6th grade dance vibe has been really off-putting to my single girlfriends I've brought with me to house parties. Hell, even my spoken-for friends like getting a little friendly, flirty male attention when they're out and out.
Case in point: I know the music was loud, but when I took two of my girls to Sonotheque this past summer, it was damn near embarrassing to explain to them that the brothas were mainly DJs/househeads who don't really approach women (a couple of gentlemanly exceptions included a DHPer--who is married--being nice enough to kick some convo to them for a minute, just on the friendly vibe). WTF is that? That and similar incidents wouldn't turn my stomach except for this: some muthafuggas have had the NERVE, the unmitigated GALL to ask me "what's up with your girl(s)?" after an event.
No one's looking for love in these joints, but it wouldn't kill menfolk to mingle, dance and look like they are still drawing breath. Esp. since all we hear are complaints about the dearth of women on the "scene." And, women need to pull up too, and remember to adjust our "bitch, please!" meters down (you know, the one that controls our neck-roll, hands-across-the-chest, eye-roll and back-turning functions) a notch when in the club. ;)

That's the detailed account of TWO women who actively patronize the scene, everyone.
THESE CORPSES ARE GETTING HARDER TO IGNORE!

Much Love to PK... I never met him or had a conversation with him but I did pay close attention to some of his post and heard about some of his "on point" discussions from other cats on the board.
graemlins/cussing.gif But Jamie, this subject ain't new and has been discuss more or less off the board than on it. But it seems like its been this way for years, you even know what parties are going to feature a room full of djs and vikings standin around, watching each other. I refuse to go or stay at a party like that.
I remember the days of Sidecar on Friday nights and I used to hear from women all the time say, "What's up with the men in here? They seem weird in here like they gay or something. I'm not coming back." Now I don't know what type of atttention some of these womwn were looking for but at certain parties they weren't gettin it. Which brings up another thought, when I see a bunch of djs standing around and women sitting down or just watching the guys I'm thinking one thing... DJs types are a bunch of nerds! They stand around in their huddles(next to the dj booth) and socialize amongest themselves and don't say anything to women not even a simple hello. I heard one dj cat say the other night, "Damn its a bunch of bougie ass women up in here." I said "Man please, you can't say that, these women are waiting for guys to say something to them 'cause nobody usually does." I could've been wrong with my statement, but like I always hear, you don't know until you try.
I'm guilty of the nerd syndrome from time to time, but one thing I try and do is stay away from the dj booth as much as possible, because it looks bad to see a bunch of guys huddle around the booth and no ladies in sight. I usually go say my peace or ask 'what the hell record is that!?' but that's it. I'm checkin' for the sights... Like Jamie said, I can listen to music at home, we should be trying to figure out a way to introduce good music to everyone who wants something other than mainstream shit.
So I say, all the nerds need to work on that shit! ;)

part of this problem is caused by the fact that women are constantly being hassled at clubs in the first place. this is why they are "unappraochable" when you see them out - they are tired of everybody constantly tryin to get a piece of ass.
this is equally true of the gay scene, which is why some of "us" don't patronize it.
meanwhile, when you have a party where women KNOW they'll feel comfortable (i.e., non meat-market mentality) - you have to be wary of which men you invite because they could easily f*ck that vibe up and make the women run.
not everyone who comes out is looking to get picked up. eye candy is great, but so many (especially but not exclusively men) don't understand that eye candy is for the eye, not the hand.
what Danny said rings so true here, in that the INTENT must be right to begin with.

So I say, all the nerds need to work on that shit! ;) Yeah, but can you bump shoulders and get loose in your family room and look at your boy who is just as amazed as you are as to the energy coming from the dj, the speakers and the others dancers/music fans?
But I definitely am in agreement about introducing good music to the masses, its a beautifull thing!
I guess my clubbing habits may be a detriment to my own future house music experiences, so I also see your point about holding back from some of these common themes at house nights.
Thats probably why I am not a promoter. ;)
I remember going to Shelter and someone told me I should meet PK. I told him I wanted to meet some people from the board and he went out of his way to introduce me to a bunch of people (Brenda you were there that night as I remember he introduced us). You rarely see people like that, a lot of peeps stand in their corner and rarely interact.
David seems to be PK's postman :D My sincere salutations to PK.

PK is a deep and humble human being. My last trip to was made all the better by meeting, and dancing alongside him. And if he reads this because I can't seem to contact him. Next trip breakfast is on me ;) .
On the other topic their are valid points to be said for hanging out, and talking about music, we have all done it a bit. From a personal viewpoint the reason I started dj'ing stemmed from dancing and letting loose on the dancefloor. And to this day it is the main reason for going out. My only hang up is some people will just stand right in the middle of the dancefloor chat drink. Most venues have certain parts to chill, chat, drink etc. TRY AND USE THAT PART AND LEAVE THE DANCEFLOOR FOR THIOSE OF US WHO HAVE A LITTLE SOMETHING TO LET OUT !.
Shame as this message won't be read by those who are guilty. A great article dealing with a few of these topics was with veteren clubber Loose on the underground archives site.
Peace Alex. ;)
