Simply would'nt happen.,not in Birmingham anyway, unless it was illegal and way out in the country.

A few questions re. Fort Green Park....

I Take it this is a legal event?

Do you need Security?

Is it funded?

Is it Free?

Where's the moody element. :D

The PS1 thing that D.Krivit played at not long ago, is that a free event ?

cheers

one'd need to apply for a park permit for an event at a public park.

Fort Greene park is free but I'm sure they have to have permits. These may cost a small amount of money. Lil Ray might have a better idea of this. I'm sure they are required to provide some kind of security but their presence has never ven been noticable to me cuz the vibe is so peaceful.

PS1 is held at an existing museum space. It's an old school or factory (?) that has been converted in to a museum. There is a large outdoor space enclosed within walls, with lots of art installations in place. They are a public space and thus they are allowed to have large gatherings. Think of it as a small scale version of the Tate Modern in London. They charge $10 I think and they have a very large security staff.

political alliances are also key in this element. Soul Summit linked up with the former city councilperson, James Davis (now passed after the recent shooting at City Hall) and got his approval which led to them getting the permits from the Community Board for sound and public assembly. they fund it themselves, but use it as an opportunity for promotion, CD selling and other ish.
