Hi there,

I´ve completed a search function here and google and came across no concrete information regarding sample clearance legalities or procedures, so thought it appropriate to ask directly.

The track I have completed clearly utilsis(z)es 2 two-bar loops from a successful eightie´s track, from a very high profile producer and I consider the track strong enough to pursue a form of official release.

What steps would be sensible before embarking on pursuing a release? Or should I just go ahead and release it without expecting to make any cash from it? Which as a first release in over a decade I am anticipating.

Also would it financially affect any subsequent releases by the same sampling ´artist-label-producer´?

Regards.

it might be too late now to put in my two cents... but

everything in the music biz in negotiable. you could pay a flat fee up front for the use of the sample, or a percentage of each sold. I would definitely clear the sample if selling online.

or it could be a straight up bootleg and you'll make no profit on it whatsoever. give it to all the blogs, promo lists, etc...
