Because they can.
They're selling hope as in new beginnings, new love, locking the closet door with the skeletons, etc.

So this may be the reason a lot of people DON'T go to clubs on New Year's eve anymore. The club cost $10 to get in one week and a week later it's $35 on that night. What are the clubs giving you that is so different?? A damn dunce cap, a horn and a split of cheap champagne (maybe) Wouldn't it make more sense to keep the price the same that way MORE people would probably go to a club if they didn't have to pay a King's ransom to get in??? Just asking!!

I will have a party at my crib again this year. Last year it was about 12 guys to 30 women. We had 2 cases of Veuve(sp) and a Gallon of Remy and 3 cases of beer. We are planning this years now.

Just asking!! Logical question Richie, but on the flip side... these people (club owners, etc) have been doing this a long time and it works... places are jam packed on New Years, even with the insanely inflated prices... so why would they want to change that? That wouldn't be too smart on their part...
Is it right? Maybe not...
Is it smart business? Damn skippy...

I hear ya Keith and Bill loud and clear. I gave up on going to clubs on New Year's Eve a long time ago. Here in the Chi most heads look for private affairs more often than not. I'm sure there are others that DO the club thing though.

If a NYE party cost only 10 bucks to get...people would suspect that it will be wack.
and 9 of 10...it will. it takes extra cash to do all the dumb little shit people love and expect on NYE. cardboard horns, stupid hats, and belching up free plastic flutes of Riunite (my favorite). Granted, they just rip you off by charging the rest, but we knew that.
And that is why. You're welcome.
