Spent some money that isn't mine and got these:

Liaisons Dangereuses (NL Hit Thing)
At last! Some great tracks I hadn't heard: "El macho y la nena" particularly but it is all round ace.

Amp Fiddler "Love & War EP" (UK Genuine)
"Freakin'" is the highlight with some great keys towards the end. Why is the KDJ mix of "Eye to eye" so short?

Moodymann "Silence In The Secret Garden" (UK Peacefrog)
Don't get why people have been disappointed with this, the title track is immense. Far better, for me, than the Mahogani releases.

3 Chairs "Theme EP" (US 3 Chairs)
Looking forward to the LP.

Joakim "Come Into My Kitchen [Remixes]" (FR Versatile)
For the dub, because I like this guy a lot right now.

Headman "It Rough" (DE Gomma)
Just got a reissue, but I missed it first time round. Wicked tracky, dubby acid house style.

Freeform Five feat. Carolyn Harding "Strength" (FR Art Of Disco/Yellow)
Proper disco record! If this isn't a future classic it'll be a crime. Fantastic strings, tremendous vocal - this is essential!

Georg Levin "In Your Car" (DE Sonar Kollectiv)
Great boogie record, as I think Suenolatino said - gorgeous chord progression and harmonies. Reminds me really strongly of something early 80s I can't put my finger on.

Various "Disco Strut Vol. 3" (US Disco Strut)
Compilation of obscure 80s soul cuts - I'd only heard of Major Harris and (the other, I guess) Intrigue. Anyone got the other volumes? Kelvy, Andrew Osborne? Standouts are Hipnotic's "Are You Lonely" and Kool Kyle's cover of "Over Like A Fat Rat", "Getting Over".

Nice choices Jonny, I passed on the Disco Strut LP, masybe next week.

I just got me these:

Egyptian Lover - freak-A-Holic

Jazzflight Unlimited - Tribute (the session) Ron Trent remake of Running Away

Abstract Fusion 3 - Missed it last time, very happy with everything on there

Bibi - Don't you see - produced by Maurice Fulton, electro inspired vocal track, really nice yet slightly weird as you'd expect.

Hideo Kobayashi feat Maki - the possibility of love. really nice brokenish track of soulful vocals (in japanese?), and noises. V Nice osunlade mix too

Chocolate Star records LP. gary davis produced album of obscurities including Got to get your Love (anyone know who sampled it?)

Joe Claussell & Jepthe Guillaume - Afrikan Guitar Groove. previously mentioned here, very nice stuff

Don't know about sampling but there was a Dmitri from Paris or Kenny Dope reedit of it last year. The rest of that side is especially good, I reckon - all those P&P do hip hop cuts, if you know what I mean.

Did you pick up the Brennan Green 12" on Modal (same label as the Bibi I think)? - the best work from him so far, IMO.

I've got both the other two. whoever puts them together knows their shit and has a very expensive record collection.

blackwax - yep!

Modal & Brennan Green, I missed it, I wondered why I knew that label, maybe I'll grab that next week too.

Yeah that whole side is perfect for MiB, but that first track, wow, I wonder of I have that K Dope & Dim re-edit, I know I know it from somewhere, Tim at the store said the same. You know what label that re-edit came on Jonny?

Thanks Matthew, I'll keep a look out for them. I found a tracklisting for the first volume, which seems less obscure - Arnie's Love, Rene & Angela etc. What's on the second?

If you don't have it, have a look for it as it's a great edit.

Add to the above

Floetry - Say Yes
Moodymann - Shattered Dreams
Detroit Experiment LP. Worth the money for the track Think Twice alone.

Maybe also dance and free your mind by sins of satan and the full length version of koke by tribe, a 10" promo only track by carol douglas and the instrumental of you've got the floor by arthur adams. excuse me if i'm getting vols 1 and 2 confused here...

Jonny, I've been trying to get Vol. 2 but so far I only have Vol. 1. For me, the reason Vol. 1 is great is Dance On The Beat by Boeing, which I'd been after for ages. Others might like it for Isabelle and the Rain by Jo Boyer.

matthew - that's the volume I have and i'm sure it's volume 2.

Johnny, it looks like the only place that i could find that disco strut volume three on sale is at dustygroove....it sounds like a must-have! hail.gif speaking of Major Harris, have you heard his 1984 song "I Believe In Love"???? a hauntingly beautiful slow song....and as for intrigue is concerned, did Disco Strut include "Flygirl" (which originally came out on World Trade if i remember correctly) or was it another song by a British outfit of the same name?

by the way, is that "Disco Strut" compilation a bootleg?

In the meantime, Vinyl Junkies (http://www.vinyl-junkies.co.uk) have got all the details of "Disco Strut 3" and real audio samples. I'm pretty sure it is a bootleg, though they have given the publishing info of each track. The pressing is OK - not amazing - and on my copy side B isn't centered properly, so the McKinley Jackson and Starvue tracks meander a bit pitch wise. :(
