This sounds like a stupid question, but I'm not really sure what someone means when they say "I play my own edits" of certain songs.

It usually means they literally re-edit a song at home or in a studio to arrange it how they would prefer it had been originally made. Often times people just extend a part of a song they like or shorten a part they dislike. Some people take out the vocals altogether. Some people add in new shit. Other DJs just get 2 copies and do this live. Some people, such as Danny Krivit, develop a reputation for this cuz their edits are so damn good.
