Urge the Pope to go to Baghdad to Stop the Impending War
Contributed by Nuclear Policy Research Institute
In an effort to try to stop the impending war with Iraq, on March 1, Dr. Helen Caldicott, a renowned political activist on nuclear and environmental issues, sent a letter to the Pope, asking him to travel to Baghdad in order to offer himself as "the ultimate human shield."
Although the Bush Administration has demonstrated it has no reservations about slaughtering innocents in Iraq, there is one person whose life they absolutely will not risk. That person is Pope John Paul II. While the Pope has already formally denounced the proposed war, calling it a defeat for humanity, as well as sent his top spokesperson to meet with Saddam Hussein, he now could take a historically unprecedented action of his own and travel to Baghdad. The Pope's physical presence in Iraq will act as the ultimate human shield, during which time leaders of the world nations can commit themselves to identifying and implementing a peaceful solution to this war that the world's majority clearly does not support.
Call to action
Please join Dr. Caldicott and ask the Pope to travel to Baghdad in an effort to stop the impending war with Iraq.
