Black support:
-let me in free
-get me a free drink
-don't charge for water
-stay open later, dammit!
-abrasives on the dancefloor (didn't you know talc IS abrasive)
-5 coats on a hangar
-constant criticism of the dj/house/venue/ you name it
-why buy the records when ya hear em for free
-one drink maximum
-btw hook me up with a mixtape yo
-so wheres the food at?
-just put your bags inside the speaker
-hmmmm, i got here at 3:30 why should i pay?
-**** the other customers we got a circle going here man (look at me ma i'm dancin, i'm DANCIN)
-could ya hook my man/girl up too?
-hey baby i got you a straw so we can sip this drink TOGETHER (swooooooooooon)
-i'm tired, lemme just sit here in the middle of the dance floor
no wonder black clubs (particularly underground venues) are thriving - talk about ROI
yah mo be there

of course this all assumes that you consider what they play at those clubs "house"
I hear ya Buddy. I agree, that "Get-all-you-can-get" mentality is so damn LAME ! graemlins/jpshakehead.gif I never ask to be placed on a guest list, but if someone offers I will accept. I always buy at least three drinks. People need to stop freeloading and realize that money has been laid out for the parties they are attending... The reality is that clubs have overhead/operating costs. If they gave everything for free, their doors wouldn't stay open very long... JMHO

-HML the joke is that i know of peeps (on this board) who "keep it black" yet have stated they go out multiple nights weekly w/o paying will not buy water or drinks - yet they are "supporting" the scene
and yes i do get comp admission and free drinks at times - but i also buy drinks for others and support the ancillaries that allow a place to remain in existence

Well from a white UK standpoint, all the above apply (maybe not talc!), people always want for free, no matter what. **** the G list, make them pay a lower price on a paying guestlist. How people can go out to a venue and not expect to pay is beyond me, you get in free, go get the first round! You get a guestlist, split the cost with your friends make the load lighter for all.
We dropped our prices, £4.50 for four DJ's & a band, we made our money back, got the band a drink, and had a little left to rollover to this months promotion budget, me & my girlfriend spent £90.00 between us at my own night, it'll come back one day. You reap what you sow.
Soon there will be no freebies, because there isn't enough money in house parties anymore, then the real heads will win over, by perseverance, the hangers on will be no more when the freebies dry up, your party may be smaller, but stronger for it.

yo webb...it seems that the paradigm is applicable to the deep/spiritual house crowd in general...a damn shame, cause these parties will go the way of the dinosaur...it takes money and a lot of it to run a venue and the "deep" types need to start recognizing such
as i stated i spoke on the majority black underground crowds i see here in the usa....glad to know that the roaches on this scene come in many hues
peace

Buddy, you hit it on the head. It's a shame.I do not try to get in free at folks events.I do not pull that industry shit either, when most folks who talk that "Industry "shit ain't thrown a set or played a set in over a year....
If I do get in free to an event,I spend the cover at the bar.Quite simple.Like I have told folks before..."Friendship don't pay no bills....."
I care not to hear folks complain about being cheap. It's old.If yo ass is broke...don't come out.I have had folks take beers that I was drinking out of the booth.Damn shame. If I ain't got enough loot to kick it,I stay my ass at home and party there.Call my brother up and we get phucked up and party at the tip.
Buddy, some folks do not want to hear the truth, they would rather drink it...for free..

Jamie just to add something...the funny part is that when a waitress gives me a comp drink..I USUALLY TIP HER 5 BUCKS ON THAT ONE ANYHOW (i'm a believer in making that first tip a big one - gets you better drinks subsequently)
if ya don't have money to party ya need to stay home - unless of course its a house party (as in someones house)

you confused me on your last post, zac. wtf are you trying to say?

</font>[/QUOTE]- given that the title of this thread is THE UNDERGROUND VIEW OF BLACK SUPPORT...it should be obvious i'm talking about house "persons"( of course their is underground hiphop/jazz/polka but being this is a HOUSE board the demographic i am alluding to is obvious)

OK, YOU GUYS HAVE A VERY VALID POINT, I AGREE 100 PERCENT. I WON'T GO TO NO PARTY UNLESS 1, I CAN AFFORD IT, 2, IF I'M INVITED, AND WHEN I GO TO THE PARTIES, IT WOULD BE NICE IF I'MA SPEND 10.00 FOR A DRINK (WHICH I DON'T MIND SPENDING THAT MUCH), THAT THE DRINK "IS" A DRINK AND NOT THAT WATERED DOWN SHIT THAT THE CLUBS BE FIXIN AND GIVEN US!! AND ANOTHER THING...CAN WE HAVE A SOUNDSYSTEM THAT IS BALANCED ON THE MID-HIGH-AND BASS END??? IT SUCKS SO BAD WHEN ONE GOES TO A CLUB AND HEAR A SYSTEM THAT SOUNDS LIKE THAT HORRIBLE SETUP AT THE REDDOG ON NORTH AND DAMEN HERE IN CHICAGO!!!!

Only problem with this is if the promoter is not getting a percentage of the bar, it a useless gesture.......If they are one in the same(owner and promoter) its ok.....
The only way I go in free is if I DJ or helping Steve move records in.....outside of that I will pay.......

If they are one in the same(owner and promoter) its ok.....Bar Guarantee's are rip off schemes- if anyone will sucker in to that they deserve it. Especially if the owner is not chipping in for promotional cost...........

Actually that depends on the crowd....we guarantee a certain dollar volume on the bar and then we get a large percentage of bar sales over and above that figure when met ....this keeps everyone honest and working...
however some promoters will get into a losing situation on those guarantee type deals
