When receiving a cover letter with a resume, what is the first thing that would peak your interest in someone just based off the cover letter.

I am in the process of writing my cover letter (which I am finding out I am not really good at) and I have been to several websites inquiring about cover letters, but everything seems so common place. I would like some Actual ideas based on some Real Life answers. HELP!

Thanks in advance,

This is just me but I tend to ignore the cover letter and skim the resume straight out. We are looking for specific people and I can get that from the resume.

I've always been told that cover letters should have bulletpoints of your skills, never paragraphs.

You both say no to a cover letter, then why is it important to have one? Do managers actually read them? Also, as a graphic designer, is it important? I am working on my website...ugh...so I am not exactly sure how important it is now or if I should bother.

A Cover letter is like a dress code at a Hip Hop night ...

Cover letters are good when you are applying for an Executive Assistant positon. A resume is good for entry level to mid managerial positions (just make sure the resume isn't more than 1 or 2 pages. A portfolio is used for professional, career oriented folk (cover letter included).

Cover letters I used to come across were a waste of paper. After the interview the "Thank You" letter is more important as a tool for sucking up graemlins/rofl.gif

I would think examples would be as good or better than references in your particular field.....JMJ

My last job was through an agency so I never wrote a cover letter, now as I am applying to certain places o my own, this became an issue, the do's and don'ts. Anyhow, I am going to just write the damn letter, cuz everything helps. Merci, merci!!!
