A rhetorical question for you all.
What is the difference between a DJ and someone who has records and equipment?
Everyone's a DJ now, but just because you have the music and equipment doesn't make you a DJ. graemlins/nono.gif
So tell me, what's the difference? graemlins/conf44.gif
Have you had any bad experiences with this scenario?

i have equipment, and thousands of records.
i have had countless residencies and have gotten paid ridiculous amounts of $$$ for spinning throughout the years. yet, i still don't consider myself a dj.
I never considered nor do I like calling myself a dj, but you do have to label yourself in order for people to understand what you do. You can't just go up to a club owner and say, "Yeah...uhhhhhh...I play records. Can I get a job?" Doesn't work. Trust me.

I have produced 5 figure budget concerts drawing in up to 6,000 attendies from Chicago to Detroit to Cleveland Ohio. I have profited and lost ridiculous amounts of $$$ through my shows throughout the years. Yet, i still don't consider myself a promoter.

Why don't you consider yourself a promoter? Do you do something else as a profession? I've attended your parties and they were "off the hook".
Is it modesty?

I have a lot of respect for a person that can do that.

i'm just a fan of the music who happens to play records in front of a crowd sometimes.
now if you asked me if consider myself to be a musician, my answer would be YES.

A dj programs emotion....a person with records just plays music with no real thought behind it, when you leave the encounter, there is no real lasting memory.
Hope that helps....

Is it modesty? </font>[/QUOTE]I was just mimicking Kilo, but the reason I don't call myself a promoter is I think alot of people look for things outside of themselves to idenyify themselves. I'm a DJ, I'm a promoter, I'm a Klan memeber, etc. It's cool to identify yourself by profession or hobby, but what happens when you have too many hobbies or professions. When does your hobby become a profesion?
Not quite modesty for me as I'm a pompous ass as you will all find out saturday! graemlins/cool_shades.gif
Moreso it's if I were to classify myself as anything and have someone try to identify me by some sort of classification(bad sentence structure noted) it would be as a film maker/entertainer. The entertainer part I havn't even started on that journey yet, I'm still working on getting head shots but I KNOW I was meant to go that route.
I'm working on a Hip Hop album right now and I got some of Dance Music & House's greatest names working on Hip Hop tracks. So far I got Bernard Badie, Mystic Bill, and some higher profile guys which you guys would consider legendary and pioneers working on tracks that I can't speak of. Did you guys know DJ Pierre makes hip hop? He does it under Prime One...has anyone heard of these tracks?
Anyways I'm also working on a documentary on House music at current. From a Chicago perspective but more widely encomassing and uncensored. I havn't seen Maestro yet, but havn't heard too many great reviews so far.
As for my parties DJCHGO3 I only do 1-5 shows per year at clubs since 97. The majority was raves from 92-97. Which shows do you speak of?
