The first 7" I remember playing and truly loving on my denim record player...
Jimmy Castor Bunch - TROGLODYTE (Cave Man)
I took this from my father's collection and used to dance like a maniac to it with my little sister. And one time I pulled her hair and my mom took the record away. She left me with the little Stevie and other Motown records. I cried.

My first toy record player was when I was about 7
It would play when you shut the lid & stop when you opened it. "There's a worm in the ground" was my jam :D

My first record player was blue and white, like the rest of my room, and my deep, pre-house collection included (circa 1975, 1976):
Skywriter, Jackson 5
Casper the Friendly Ghost album
Puff the Magic Dragon ("little Jackie Paper, loved that rascal Puff...")
I'm Every Woman, Chaka Khan
Do the Hustle, Van McCoy
Then I graduated to "spinning" my parents' system at their basement parties (had to do something to make myself useful so I wouldn't have to go to bed)....
However, a 45 I will always hold close to my heart is Patrice Rushen's "Forget Me Nots." It was the first record I bought with my own my, earned from babysitting. I bought it at the Meijer Thrifty Acres down the street from my house.

My brother and I had to share an old lift off top record player that played 33, 45, and 78's. "You Keep Me Hangin On" by The Supremes, I wore out. I loved that opening guitar riff as I fashioned myself a big time guitar player. Also I liked:
In the Midnight Hour - Wilson Pickett
Cold Sweat - James Brown
The Horse - Cliff Nobles and Company
Do Your Thang - Watts 103rd St. Rythm Band
Love makes a Woman - Barbara Acklin
Funky Broadway - Dyke and The Blazers
Expressway To Your Heart
What Becomes Of The Broken Hearted
The Meditation

I remember playing this record out as a child after my mother found out that I was so in love with the song.
"When love slips away" by Dee Dee Warick I believe.
Just how the record come's on with the piano melody along with the background singer's...something lovely!
If you havent heard it, find it and listen to it and hopefully you will feel the same as I do.

My first record was "This Little Light of Mine," which my mother ordered for me from "Faith For Today," a Sunday morning religious show with Father Jim Fagel. Side be was "Jesus Loves the Little Children." I was about 5 years old. I didn't knbow nothing about side B, but I'd begged my mom to get "This Little Light of Mine" for me. I was tickled pink when I found out there was a "bonus" song on the 45. Of course, I didn't have a record player so I only got to hear it when I begged my dad or Tee to play it for me.

R-R i remember getting this 45 as a hand-me-down from my next door neighbor. it was kind of worn out by the time i got it but still enjoyed playing this tune...
the earliest record i recall getting was one of those cut-out cardboard records in the back of a Captain Crunch cereal box when i was about 3. but the earliest 45 besides the "peter pan" label series that i remember liking was the archies "sugar sugar"...other early 45s i enjoyed include..
shaun cassidy -- i wanna be with you
milton hamilton crystalized -- my love supreme
jackson 5 -- rockin robin
bing crosby -- easter parade
peaches & herb -- shake your groove thing
gonzalez -- haven't stopped dancing yet/just let it lay
thus setting the stage for a life-long love affair with the vinyl format. graemlins/1luvu.gif

The first 45 i bought with my own money was "Peanut Butter" by Twennynine featuring Lenny White. The first album i bought was the Destiny album by the Jacksons. Before then me and my sisters would have to ask my dad to buy all of our records but because he was a music teacher all we had to do was ask him questions about some part of the history of music and pretend like we were somewhat interested in his long and drawn out answer and then we could slide in our musical requests and it always worked
