I had to laugh because the day after your "is it wrong..." thread, the guy who sits next to me at work had a copy of Mojo (which I had never seen before) that someone else left on his desk. I cracked up and I was really going to mess with you about it. One of the few groups I was familiar with was XTC from my modern rock days. Oranges and Lemons. Think I will dig that out and listen to it today.

Well I don't know how to tell the weight of the sun, and of mathematics well I want none, and I may be the Mayor of Simpleton, but I know one things and that's I love you.
When their logic grows cold and all thinking gets done, you'll be warm in the arms of the Mayor of Simpleton.
I can't have been there when brains were handed round (please be upstanding for the Mayor of Simpleton), or get past the cover of your books profound (please be upstanding for the Mayor of Simpleton), and some of your friends thinks it's really unsound that you're ever seen talking to me.
Well I don't know how to write a big hit song, and all crossword puzzles well I just shun, and I may be the Mayor of Simpleton, but I know one thing and that's I love you.
I'm not proud of the fact that I never learned much, just feel I should say, what you get is all real, I can't put on an act, it takes brains to do that anyway. (And anyway...)
And I can't unravel riddles problems and puns, how the home computer has me on the run, and I may be the Mayor of Simpleton, but I know one thing and that's I love you (I love you).
If depth of feeling is a currency (please be upstanding for the Mayor of Simpleton), then I'm the man who grew the money tree (no chain of office and no hope of getting one), some of your friends are too brainy to see that they're paupers and that's how they'll stay.
Well I don't know how many pounds make up a ton of all the Nobel prizes that I've never won, and I may be the Mayor of Simpleton, but I know one things and that's I love you.

Amazing album. "King for a Day" is a great song as well. I'm gonna have to pull out my copy when I get home as well. graemlins/thumbsup.gif

Sorry, FNM and David for taking over the thread (where are you, anyway FNM? Still hiding out?)
Yes, toomuchtv, I have to say that "King for a Day" is my favorite of the collection (The ladder gets longer, and ambition gets stronger, can't satisfy the hunger...) followed by "Mayor of Simpleton" -- I'm kind of simple like that, too.
Liked reading the lyrics, too. I did enjoy listening to it in the car. When I put the tape in it was on "Here comes President Kill again..."
Thanks for the thought chain, aKiLa (you guys and these caps!). I might have put in for a subscription to Mojo if you weren't younger than the 10 year age-difference threshold I've set for myself. Even I have to draw the line somewhere! ;) Plus, I don't know if I could match you on the other stuff either.

aww, shucks! :
thanks for the nice comment.
now, i'm blushing. http://deephousepage.com/smilies/blush.gif
i reread that thread last night and the truth is between the time that i posted that thread and now, i have actually began to reevaluate
my thoughts on the subject.
i still do believe that by now a person that i might want to get romantically involved with should already know who they are.
But, i have also realized that a lot of the nit picky stuff that i mentioned in that thread were just because of my own insecurities.
i think it was Lola Desire that mentioned something about wanting all of those things in order to avoid conflict.
that is so true.
what is the point if you can't work through your problems as a couple and getting past the issues, living to see the many more happy days that come along with those sour times.
unless of course ya'll just can't get along.
i've been in those relationships. (VERY DANGEROUS).
hey, (Im)poster
you said something about "your modern rock days".
does that mean you were a "MOD"? as in you were a part of the Modern Revival Movement of the 80's. http://www.modrevival.net/index.html
or did you mean something else.

Akila: Before I left California to "make my way in the world," I was into all sorts of "alternative music" but just listening, not embracing any particular culture. Used to listen to a station called KROQ. Then I had to move to a place where I had little choice in terms of musical variety even in college radio so I kind of fell out of it. I can appreciate all sorts of music, as I've said before.
With that, toomuchtv: I pulled the tape and thought the lyrics of "King for a Day" also warranted listing. The twinkle-y upbeat music kinda belies the lyrical content, IMO.
Everyone's creeping up to the money god
putting tongues where they didn't ought to be.
On stepping stones of human hearts and souls
into the land of "nothing for free."
Well the way that we're living
is all take and no giving
there's nothing to believe in
the loudest mouth will hail a newfound way
to be king for a day
Everyone's licking up to the new king pin
trying to get way up with a smile
sing for your supper boy
and jump to a finger click
ain't my way of living in style
Cause the ladder gets longer
and ambition gets stronger
I can't satisfy the hunger
the bad ol moon has got you in its sway
to be king for a day
You're only here once
so you gotta get it right
(no time to fuss and fight)
Cause life don't mean much
if measured out with someone else's plight
(in time you'll see the light)
Cause the way that we're living
is all take and no giving
there's nothing to believe in
the loudest mouth will hail a newfound way
to be king for a day.
From President Kill (1989)...
Here comes President Kill again
surrounded by all of his killing men
telling us who, why, where, and when
President Kill wants killing again
Hooray, ring out the bells
King Conscience is dead
Hooray now back in your cells
We've President Kill instead
Here comes President Kill again
broadcasting from his killing den
Dressed in pounds and dollars and yen
President Kill wants killing again
Hooray, hang out the flags
Queen Caring is dead
Hooray, we'll stack body bags
for President Kill instead
Ain't democracy wonderful?
Them Russians can't win
Wonderful.
Let's us vote someone like that in
Here comes President Kill again
from pure White House to Number 10
taking lives with a smoking pen
President Kill wants killing again.

We consider ourselves post Mod's.
In actuallity the Mod's of today are just trying to bring back and relive the glory days.
Today's Mod's are really just living in the past.
Which in term is contradictory to the original definition MODERN.
We embrace the old as well as the new.
We love House Music as much as we love the 60's - present Rock & Roll and Soul bands.
We don't feel the need to dress like all the other so called Mod's in our city who wear all the vintage 60's style gear.
It's not about fashion and a certain sound of music for us.
It's about living a trully modern, forward thinking kind of lifestyle.
Post Mod BEYOTCH!!!

like my signature quote down below says...
i'm totally down with helping make the PMFM into a full fledged scene.
DHP member Alex Zen and myself came up with the idea for this movement a while back.
Riding on a Lambretta is accepted though it is definitely not mandatory.
Alex has a really nice old school Vespa actually.
the basic rules to this are that there are no rules.
well, except for maybe going with the natural progression of life as human beings and utilizing our forward thinking minds.
p.m. me and let me know what idea's you have in mind for making this movement a reality out in Manchester.
i got family out in Camberley so next time i get out to England we definitely gotta hook up.
no matter what we should definitely stay in touch.
