Felix - Tiger Stripes - Sleeping Bag

Produced by Nicky Siano. I can't get enough of this record. Was just noticing that it was mixed by Hippito Torales Jr.. What is up with Killer Whale?

The breakdown of the long version of "Tiger Stripes" is extremely housey for a record that came out in 1984.

On a similar note, "Let's go Swimming" and "Wax The Van" are also getting me off this week.

Nicky and I released an extended/updated remix of "Tiger Stripes" b/w "Move" (with Maxine Bell on vocals) a few years back ... if you liked the original, I encourage you to check it out. The extended breakdowns are highlighted in both. graemlins/beerchug.gif

Hey fellas Hippie here. yeah that was my mix but I wanted to do a dub with this little scat they had that was slammin. Couldn't do it though because Arthur Russel was with me through the whole session and had to approve everything I did. So yeah I did it but I wanted to go crazy on it and couldn't.

That's some interesting history. I bet you could work the arrangement a hundred ways. There are so many nice tracks in that record. Great job on it!

Hey I wish I had a few copies. I think I have one somewhere in my collection I have to dig out that might be spanking new. Maybe I'll make it available as a mp3 to you guys, but no promises I have to find it 1st. and I have quite a few records to go through. Give me sometime and I'll look for it. Peace, Hippie

Hi Hippie

What was Arthur Russell like to work with?

Some call him a musical genius - what do you think?

Well he certainly was a artist. Knew what he liked and disliked and didn't fool around. I wanted to experiment more but he had a fixed idea of what his music should sound like and didn't want to much change done to it. I really had to be patient unlike todays remixers that get the accapellas and do whatever you want. This was one producer that wanted control over his work. I certainly learned what being a artist meant that day. Other than that sort of quiet kinda of guy.

I wonder what FK has to say about Arthur/Go Bang Remix?

A friend of mine visited NYC recently and said he heard a lot of bands that were blatantly trying to sound like Arthur Russell.

Can someone name some names of any of these bands that are worth a listen, records to look for (danceable ones especially), etc. ?
