In my time i've "hooked" people up as well as tapped into the marketing aspect of "dj" culture. Anyone we used had talent and some of the name "dj cultue" type dj's also drew an audience. Being that i got into this game for the money the decision to go with names was quite logical.
The people that got hooked up were the people who CAME and SUPPORTED our parties and who had talent. Thhe only thing I would hook up a first time attendee who asked would be some cock. Because invariably that type usually was totally out for self and didn't support and once they spun never return. I se this situation happen at some of TODAYS recurrnt parties (but ya aint heard it from me)

As or me, I've never asked anyone in this biz for anything....i'll hook myself up first as i have a huge amount of pride

Also, I've extended opportunities to those of whom I didn't know and never heard play (i.e. but not restricted to: Music Mondays @ the Funky Buddah Lounge 1999-2000) and they were quite well. I "put them on" because more than anything, they were good people if not great djs. Your personality also can play a major part in the politics of this dj/music stuff.

I never ask for a Hook up, back then when I was "Alive", Ive earned it!
You have some Dj's out there that always look out for # 1, themselves! Some who lie or stab others in the back just to get on a flyer, some who have stab other Djs in the back just to be the "only Dj" on the flyer.
But the most sick thing ive ever seen being a Dj is that other Dj's ( so called Dj's ) will under-cutt another Dj's price just to Spin!!!
If that isnt pathetic then I dont know what is!
I still Dj, I still do Cd's for my close freinds and other's along the way. I stop Djing at certain clubs in Chicago because of the Pay and Under-cutting from other Dj's.
Then I've notice what I was doing wrong...I was in the wrong Club's Djing!
I've decide to go Corporate..I Dj for Polly Esthers night club ( Chicago ) and made well over $1200.00 every 2 week's doing what I love to do....just playing Music! For 4 years, I played music...and I was payed for my talents, not on a hook up from a freind.
