During the late eighties it was a profound interest in sound technology and an obsession with music that led Alex to invest all his time, energy and money in to what now has become the Souldoubt studio and the focal point for Freaked records. It was in 93 that a chance meeting on his first day of University with a DJ that things began to take shape and quite quickly a vinyl addiction was formed. Frequent trips back to Nottingham then ensued and the Deep house influence ran rife as DIY, Smokescreen and Go Tropo parties appeared around the city and out in the countryside on a weekly basis. After a few years of partying and running his own club night for over a year all his time and effort were again ploughed back in to the studio.

In 97 Alex moved into a studio in the heart if the city now also occupied by Toka Project, Lo-motion, Inland Knights, Drop Music and Manchester’s Crazy Penis and had his first release on Drop Music, entitled ‘Rhythm by Nature’. Described as a ‘Funky ass shaker’ by Laurent Garnier this spurred Alex on and in early 2000 secured a P&D deal with Prime Distribution, London and so Freaked Records was born. Recording as the artist Souldoubt, tracks were also licensed to Labels such as BOSH, Surreal, Special Needs, Get Groovy, and VIVA! Recordings and later Eukahouse, again on the Drop Music album and remixes for Scott Findlay’s ‘Deepinit’ ep on Nordic Trax and ‘Misty Blue’ by A Million Sons followed. The first release on Freaked, ‘Souldoubt-That 64 sound’ received support from the likes of Josh Wink and the label has continued to receive support from other DJ’s such as Halo Varga, Chris DuckenField (SWAG), Mazi Namvar (ASP), Chris Udoh, Deep C, Laurent Garnier, Mr C, Lee Burridge, Brent Laurence (Tilted) Luke Soloman, Murray Richardson, Joshua, David Duriez and a host of others. Freaked and Souldoubt have received praise also in Magazines such as, Mixmag, DJ, WAX, XLR8R, M8, Jockey Slut and i-DJ.

Whilst running the label and writing more music in the studio Alex has also found time to DJ and has over the last 15 months has played in New York, Moscow, Seattle, San Francisco, Prague, London, Paris, Miami, Brighton, Vancouver, Bratislava and Ekaterinburg.
