Greetings aKiLa:

Rock music is one of the world's most popular and adaptable musical forms. When it originated in the United States in the early 1950's, rock music was known as rock 'n' roll (also spelled rock and roll). From the start, it was party music, dance music, and music that appealed to young listeners. It often celebrated the joys of being young, and it occasionally expressed the frustrations of youth.

Many adults dismissed rock 'n' roll as a passing fad or condemned it as a threat to society. By the mid-1960's, however, rock 'n' roll had earned wide respect as a legitimate art form. The music's popularity spread internationally and among older listeners as well. By the end of the 1960's, the music had moved far from its roots in blues and country music, and it became known simply as rock.

In the 1970's, rock became a bigger business than ever. It not only dominated the music industry, but also influenced everything from film to fashion to politics. As rock music became increasingly accepted, it lost much of the rebelliousness that had originally given it its power.

Since the early 1980's, rock music has continued to defy musical barriers and has drawn much of its strength from international musical influences. Today, rock music is no longer only the music of young Americans. It is music of the world.

I actually saw them last year when they played at Joey's memorial party, along with Blondie and The Damned. Everybody looked a little old but they can still do their thang. The Damned sounded tighter and faster now than in 77!

Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Frank Zappa, Jethro Tull, Jimi Hendrix, Santana, King Crimson, Black Sabbath (with Ozzie), Pink Floyd, Robin Trower, Jeff Beck, Deep Purple, Yes, Johnnie Winter just to name a few. This is what I was listening to when I was rockin' out. I still say that a concert with any of these artist will blow any party away in my book, I don't care who's spinning.
Peace

I've been listening to those guys since 1989/90, and I always knew that they were destined to be not only influential (which they are), but one of the most important rock bands to come out in history. Their previous album, "The Soft Bulletin," is now grouped with such influential albums such as The Beach Boys, "Pet Sounds," and The Beatles, "Sargeant Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band." They released an album titled, "Zaireeka," which is 4 discs that are to be played at the same time! ****ing genius. During what some would call their zenith (during their mid 90's noise-pop-psychedelia reign), they had an African-American guitarist named, Ronald Jones, who took their sound to new, and unheard of levels...totally on some next shit. And now, their electronic-baroque-symphonic-pop is on the lips of everybody. They just won a grammy for Best Rock Instrumental. They toured with De La Soul last summer...this band deserves your attention. I've got my ticket.
