I read this yesterday (I lost the link):

"Thanks to summer jaunts to Spain's Ibiza, rap mogul Sean "P. Diddy" Combs has become so enamored of the dance scene that he's producing his own songs, creating a separate dance label and inspiring tons of headlines/debate about the new direction. But since his big debut at WMC '03, little has been said or heard of his "Let's Get Ill" single recorded with Deep Dish and spun (by Puffy himself) at Danny Tenaglia's marathon Space event. We hope it's just a temporary lapse in attention to detail, since the industry could really use an enterprising mogul like him."

Is it a good thing?

If this subject has been covered before, please provide me with the link of the thread so that I can read it.

Thank you.

"lets Get Ill" graemlins/puke.gif
heard it, hate it
it sucks
and TRUST ME this is coming from someone who can tolerate this style of dance music.
I would like to upload some pictures of Puff @WMC but I cant on this board, i'll look for a link though ;)

and on a side note. I'm really disappointed in Puff for not collaborating with @least some DeepHouse producers on his upcoming album. I know he's worked with Deep Dish so far, Darren Emerson, Junior Sanchez, Felix DaHousecat, I think Danny Howells and Erick Morillo with Harry Romero.

I'm not gonna say this isnt good for House Music, I'm totally for Puffy getting into House (dont worry PURISTS, there will always be the underground)BUT just because you took some E over in Ibiza and you saw the enthusiam of the European crowd on the island doesnt mean you know what House music is all about. i would love for him to at least stop by the Shelter on a Saturday or 667 on a Wednesday to see how people of color can get down on this music. graemlins/acclaim.gif

Thanks a lot EL MAYIMBE!

Very good and valid points. I guess there is no difference in between Puff Daddy and the other heads from the big labels. $$$$$!

Since he is 100% Hip hop, I thaught he would ask to colaborate with people like Kenny Dope, Kerri Chandler, Dj Spinna, Todd Terry, Jazzy Jeff ect...

not the likes of Deep Dish, Darren Emerson, Junior Sanchez, Felix DaHousecat...

What a waiste.

Could you imagine seeing him come in sans entrourage and being open to getting a real feeling of what its all about?

I heard it the other day. It's not terrible. It's not hard and techy either. Funny thing is while I was hearing it, I was wondering if it was Puffy b/c it's very ala Puffy style (shouting out "let's get ill"). smile.gif

Lets Get Up & Let's Get Ill"

Armand Van Helden remixed a couple of Bad Boy tracks back in 96 or 97.

If people have a problem with his releases, sign a deal and release some product on his label....put that 10 mil to good use.......

Yeah, I remember that. Bad Boy used to put these promo only singles with dnb and dance remixes on them. Armand Van Halen did a couple. Trent Reznor from 9 Inch Nails actually did one, too. They were ALL complete garbage.

Natacha, the tracks were:

Been Around The World
It’s All About The Benjamins

Very typical and predictable Van Helden sound from that time period. ( Remember Sugardaddy, Proffesional Widow...etc?) Not really the kind of "house" that gets me.

yeah, and of course Puffy told some stupid british "music" mag that his relationship with dance music goes further back than that of most people in the game today. and of course he claimed that he went to the paradise garage graemlins/rofl.gif
when the interviewer confronted him with the fact that he was about 12 in 1982 at the heydays of the garge, he came up with some ish like:
"yeah those were crazy times in new york thx to what happened at studio 54"

It's funny this came up as he was profiled tonight on VH-1. While his interest in house may not be as authentic as that of the members of this group, I still would like to give him some credit. I admit I am not familiar with the single but folks like Deep Dish, Darren Emerson, Erick Morillo, etc. are not fake house dj/producers. Puffy has a gift/curse for seeing the commercial potential in all music. I'm sure that Puffy would prefer to appeal to the eurotrash he say in Ibiza as opposed to the mature, urban, sexually diverse crowd at Shelter. That is not his target market and he won't risk alienating his pop fan base. I hope he hooks up with some passionate a+r folks who live house music and are willing to meet him halfway artistically. Any major label people who has enthusiasm for dance music in America should be applauded and supported. Hating has gone a long way towards isolating dance music out of the pop music equation in the U.S. Puffy grew up listening to Diana Ross, The Police, James Brown, LTD, etc. he knows the roots of dance music. If nothing else, Puffy is a dancer, so I look forward to him going something great.

Heard it, hated it. Its absolute bollocks - second rate rip off of Energy Flash with P Diddyman and Kelis ranting over the top... highly embarrassing for all concerned.

Got word from one of the Gigolo's today that P-Diddy has signed with International Deejay Gigolo Records, Munich Germany.
Also got the word that while thee Gigolo himself Dj. Hell was out in New York shooting his latest video,
him and P-Diddy kicked it and Sean even lent him a Rolls Royce for the entire stay.

Puff is attempting to do what the UK did nearly ten years ago.

He'll get House recoginized and in regular play on the Billboard chart - but his take will be mainstream.

Looking at the co-producers listed, he's going for a druggy monotonous MTV and ecstasy friendly vibe...

Now, let's see the Neptunes turn their hands to some House and we might just have something...those boy could blow up with some quirky deep productions smile.gif
