Just to throw this out there, what was YOUR first experience with "House Music"? Was it a club you went to, a song you heard, a DJ spinning a set you never forgot, etc. Anything at all that took you there. Any & all opinions welcomed.

early 1987. A friend tells me he has Prince's "Black Album" and I convince him to dub me a copy on cassette. There's empty space at the end of it, so he puts Frankie Knuckles' classic "Baby Wants To Ride" (which makes reference to Prince) in the remaining space at the end of the tape. I was like ... "This ain't Prince ... wtf is it????" The answer, and the rest, is history.

Next door neighbor introduced me to the mixes on WBMX in the early 80's. I have not been the same every sense.. Record playing was: Divine "Native Love"..

This is very interesting because i truly dont remember the first house record i listened to, About 1974-75 i started listening to Disco music along with my friends In Newark NJ were i grew up. Later on when i got a little older around 17 yrs old we started callin it Club music, i knew folks in Chicago & Detroit & San francisco listened to Club music like we did but i didnt pay attention to where the music was coming from, When i look backk now It just seemed to be such a smooth transition from Disco to House i never noticed the change. Music got funkier and funkier but i just thought it was a sign of the times didnt know until later on that the Katz from Chicago was turning out this dope ass music that we call House today. If my life depended on it i could never tell you the first House record or house experience i ever had.

My first house experience was in 1989 when i met my brotha dj Teeto & he had this little collection of records he had brought with him from back home in Brooklyn NY in his collection he had stuff from Todd Terry,Latin Rascals,Jungle brothers,King Sun (( on the club Tip ))this one was HOT!!! to hear for my first time it was clubby.but yeah when he left back home in 1990 he kept me up on DEEP ASS HOUSE MUSIC FROM N.Y like chosen few- Positivity/Teach me to fly/Crystal Waters-Surprise etc. he just blew up out there & got me all into it. at first i gotta admit didnt know Jack about it I was all HIP HOP Then i went to a few Wharehouse Party's & tried out this music & just fell in love with it. Now I know a thing about this movement.... lets all keep it alive & pump'n peace to all here at DHP..... graemlins/respekt.gif to graemlins/OLA.gif

I'm not sure but it was Probably "Move Your Body". At least this song actually had the words "House music" in it, so I was conscious that it was, indeed, house. This was played at just about every party I went to in 87.
