Like comparing apples to lug nuts - the beauty and the voice are incomparable.
------------------------------------------------
What was I thinking - the voice is NOT incomparable. I meant to say that the voice and the beauty are pretty far apart. She doesn't sound too bad. Just ask any seven year old. They think she's the bomb.

Uh, I think she sings better than she looks. I like when 50 cent said something about her sideburns and beard. So true.

She's made a whole career outta singing "Ahh baby" "Oohh Baby". The girl is fly, but she really can't sing - but then again most of the folks making records these days can't sing - its all maketing. The chile is a lousy dancer too. I ain't mad at her though - she's able to cash in on what's hot at the moment....although she may wanna look for another label given Murder Inc's current situation with the Feds...

Did anyone see Whitney and Bobby on the DIVAS concert on VH1? She lost her looks and sounds like her voice too. What was up with all the high stepping crap? And didn't she looking like one of the Feed The Children kids - all skinny, but her stomach looked swole. Can Crack do dat?!? graemlins/conf44.gif

Ashanti and her ilk praise the lord for the invention of the Antares Auto-Tune plugin. If it wasn't for that piece of software, even tone deaf people would be complaining to their radio station every time an Ashanti track was on.

Here is a little fact about Ashanti:
She turned down a track scholarship to Princeton so she can pursue her career in singing (her real talent as she puts it)

I can't front. Ashanti is kinda hot, but she is one dimensional. Her tracks are repetitive. She needs to drop those Murder Inc bozos and expand her horizons. Just my two cents .....

That was so lame I instantly forgot her name. Ashanti may or may not Autotune, but that girl couldn't even get it toghether to get a cracked copy of Autotune... and she NEEDS it in a bad way!
IMO, Ashanti songs are some of the only listenable material on that label for those of us who are not under the impression that we are some sort of thug supervillan. And the production, while not groundbreaking, is very well done. In specific, it has tonal balance and spatial seperation that the producers of some of the one-dimensional house records discussed on this page should take a lesson from.
I picked up the Happy and Foolish 12s as part of a concentrated effort to inject some recognizable and popular music into my live sets which are developing a tendency to get way to "deep" for most folks. (thanks in no small part to the DHP!) It was extremely successful in terms of dancefloor response. One of the things I've learned from talking to the DJs on this board is that your average Jane Notahead partygoer will eventually feel lost and go home if you don't throw her a radio biscuit every 8-10 songs, even if you're playing all "good music". When properly done, this technique enhances the overall deepness of the mix through musical diversity and prys open the ears of the listener to let in the music they don't know that you're mixing it with. Ashanti is PERFECT for this, at least in my neck of the woods.
I for one am looking forward to hearing her new album and seeing if there's anything on it worth using in the same context, since the old stuff is so played now.
For those of you who will no doubt pick apart this post and give me a bunch of opinion as to why I shouldn't be playing Ashanti, I would appreciate some constructive input also (for a change). Specifically, give me at least one recommendation of new popular music can I play in place of her records that is danceable and has musical value.
