one nice thing: it seems to have MP3 support build-in..... i am not sure if it also supports DVD, pioneer just announced a DVD-version of the CDJ1000..... imagine taking a few DVD's with mp3's with you and play an entire night....
i am still waiting for a CDJ with build-in harddisk and/or USB2/firewire connection though ;)

i wonder if the platter is touch-sensitive, like on the pioneer CDJ800/1000... that's imho a very nice feature...
btw, i am currently talking with a large pro-audio manufacturer who seems to be very interested in my idea of creating a "vinyl warm up" box for DJ's that use CD's or other digital media (like laptops with traktor, finalscratch or ableton live) ... the idea is a simple but effective box you can connect between your mixer output and amp inputs (or cd-player and mixer input if you only use 1 cd player) with a few controls to modify the sound... it uses some form of parametric EQ to sculpt the frequency-range more into vinyl-like specs, and some kind of 2th order harmonics generation to simulate the distortion that is generated by the needle tracking the groove...... this distortion is what makes the drums on vinyl sound much "harder/louder" compared to CD.....
what do you peeps think about this? what would you like to pay for such a device? what does it need besides the basic functionality?

wow, i want one!
it looks like it's got a spinning plate, does the pioneer have that aswell? i remember hearing people praise the pioneer when it came out, but their only complaint was that the plate didn't move like vinyl does.

Thanks for putting up the pic. It's gorgeous, especially for all the old school Tech 1200's users such as myself who've been holding out on cd use. I'm glad to see Technics get a peiece of the action. Also, I like the fact the pitch is the same direction as the 1200's.

jurren it looks like it is rotating judging from the reflections of that red light ;) I don't think they would put that just so it looks good. Interesting.

reality check..all the local clowns download all their music and go play at the local spots. i've done a bunch of local gigs in jersey lately, and all the local resident dj's show up with a cd wallet of downloaded music. i always ask them, and they all admit to downloading all their music. most of these mp3's sound like garbage, on systems that most of the time border on garbage themselves. i did a club two weeks ago, and the resident was schooling me aboutu how i should stop buying vinyl and juts download all my music, because its free. the best part is...he doesn't even own a computer! he has his friends download it for him and then he plays the tracks and gets paid for it! mind you, he played all widely available commercial music, mainly cheese house and hip hop. when i got on to do my set, put my cartridges in, him and his boys watched me with jaws to the floor, one even told me he didn't even know they still made vinyl. and these guys do these gigs for minimal pay, because they don't have to worry about paying for any records, and the club owners will hire them because they don't want to pay a real dj.
so we go on these boards and praise every new machine that comes out that can play mp3's...and i have no problem with people transferring their own collections to cd or mp3...but the majority of people who will be using these things are people who download all the music they play. so then we post about how club systems sound like crap and how the scene and house labels are going under because of things such as downloading...

you don't wanna know how many vinyl-only DJ's i hear spinning crap-music all night long, mixing from one trainwreck into the other, and meanwhile distorting the system like hell, driving every possible gain-structure into it's limits....not to mention abusing that yellow effect-button on the pioneer mixon.....
does that mean that all vinyl-DJ's are clowns that don't care for quality music and good audio-quality? i don't think so....
i may sound a little harsh, and i obviously ignored the fact that you say that there are also exceptions to your rule, but i am getting SO sick and tired of all these people blaming the internet and downloading for the "downfall" of the musicbizz, and in one breath also tell us that DJ's using CD's are pirating clowns that are no *real* DJ's..... you dont wanna know how many clue-less newbies i've seen that only want to use vinyl because it looks so *cool* and get's them so many chicks..it's disgusting....
i run a "label" and we only press vinyl, but our music is available for nothing in MP3 format on our website....and you know what? the music is still selling, and people are actually emailing us where they can buy our music on vinyl or CD because they downed the MP3 and like it so much they wanna buy it... for THOSE people we press up our music, i couldn't care less about all the people who see music as a 1-day thing... they wouldn't buy the music anyway..let 'em download our music and spread it over all the P2P networks they can find.....the more people enjoy it, the better....
and why is it that i never hear peeps complain when f.e. Kerri Chandler is using and exploring new solutions like FinalScratch? when someone else would come up with a FS system peeps would right away start nagging about how FS users are all pirates playing crappy downloaded MP3's and killing the music industry......but their mouths are shut when one of the most important persons in our scene is using the same device..... is it only possible to use FS when you are actually a producer or famous DJ? i really don't get it..
label's should stop complaining and better offer an alternative for all the DJ's that don't want to use vinyl.....or suffer the consequences of not innovating..... big props for f.e. FK for releasing their 12"es on CD's for a very decent price, and Yellow Productions for releasing their entire Africanism-series on a full 12" mix CD-box...

Olaf Come on... Any idiot that doesn't know enough can make a good system sound like shit. When I play out I make it a purpose to walk out and listen to the sound system to make sure it's clean and if I need to I adjust my levels and EQ's. I don't think that takes too much intelligence, it should be common sense and you don't have to mix every freakin' record to be a good DJ you need to know how to manipulate the music accordingly and put it together the right way. You need to know how to let the music speak...

Olaf They are tools and should be used accordingly and responsibly. People are abusing the system and the tools, People could give a **** and that is why the industry is the way it is, the voice of those that give a shit is no where near as loud as those who are in it for other reasons. If it wasn't for people who gave a shit half of what we have now wouldn't even exist.

yeah, there are clown vinyl dj's also...but at least they make an effort and buy the music or go through legitimate means to get it, whether they are underground or clown commercial dj's.
the sound qualty issue, as you said, does go far deeper, but playing downloaded mp3's doesn't make it any better, only worse. yes, there are dj's, many, who overdrive and peak out the system and play on bad mixers such as the pioneer...my problem is we are getting into a culture of efficiency and ease, where every step is a shortcut, and everything suffers down the chain

about using tools: i agree for some extend.... but let me ask you: why didn't the reel-to-reel destroy the music-industry? why didn't the sampler destroy the music industry?
it might not be fun to read, but after the good times there comes bad times... people are not caring so much about music anymore, it's old news to the masses, they target on other things now..it was nice when it lasted, DJ's and producers making a decent living from house-music, but now these times are almost over.... it's time to smell the coffee and find alternatives to make money, instead of nagging and complaining about the internet this and the internet that...... over here most quality DJ's are working besides their DJ-gig, and only a few international big-names can make good money over here....but not much longer anymore.... parties aren't selling out anymore, it's all decreasing...going back to the underground.... the way things go, it's all going in cycles.. and the internet has jack to do with it..

of course i don't say that illegal downloading is good.... we all agree on that point i guess.... but i think there is an important overlooked point: i am 100% sure that most people that download music from the internet don't care a bit about music, and wouldn't shell out money for music in the first place if the internet wouldn't exist..... maybe we have to blame superstar-DJ culture for these clown-DJ's with downloaded MP3s? everybody wanting to be a DJ? i guess these clowns wouldn't even want to be DJ's if this superstar-DJ-culture wasn't there...they would probably buy a guitar and start playing crappy music to get all the chick ;)
i am also 100% (no proof, my personal believe) that the trouble in the music-industry would be *al least* the same way as it is now when the internet and downloading wouldn't exist....

i run a "label" and we only press vinyl, but our music is available for nothing in MP3 format on our website....and you know what? the music is still selling, and people are actually emailing us where they can buy our music on vinyl or CD because they downed the MP3 and like it so much they wanna buy it... for THOSE people we press up our music, i couldn't care less about all the people who see music as a 1-day thing... they wouldn't buy the music anyway..let 'em download our music and spread it over all the P2P networks they can find.....the more people enjoy it, the better....
and why is it that i never hear peeps complain when f.e.

</font>i don't know..people like FK, kerri, MAW, dennis ferrer, david mancuso etc. are very well known and respected names, and they give a shit..these people might be specific to the (deep)house scene, but still these peeps are respected and people listen to their opinions...
about using tools: i agree for some extend.... but let me ask you: why didn't the reel-to-reel destroy the music-industry? why didn't the sampler destroy the music industry?
it might not be fun to read, but after the good times there comes bad times... people are not caring so much about music anymore, it's old news to the masses, they target on other things now..it was nice when it lasted, DJ's and producers making a decent living from house-music, but now these times are almost over.... it's time to smell the coffee and find alternatives to make money, instead of nagging and complaining about the internet this and the internet that...... over here most quality DJ's are working besides their DJ-gig, and only a few international big-names can make good money over here....but not much longer anymore.... parties aren't selling out anymore, it's all decreasing...going back to the underground.... the way things go, it's all going in cycles.. and the internet has jack to do with it..
Olaf </font>[/QUOTE]FK is also experimenting with much higher quality recording methods than mp3's...read his own board, he even hates regular cd's...i have nothign againsta advancing and making money in other ways or formats...my beef is that a lot of dj's will simply download the music for free without buying it...that is what i personally see in all the local clubs and bars...they freely admit to it..these people are proud of the fact that they don't have to spend a dime on music, load up a few cd's with downloaded mp3's and play a night for $50. i am pretty sure people like FK are not playing music downloaded on Kazaa the night before...

Most people that I know used to buy ALOT of music, and now buy none whatsoever, becuz they have traded in their walkman for an IPOD and all of their music comes from the web.

Chris, very credible arguments, but what happens when you run into a label (I ain't sayin any names) that won't release shit that's been out for an entire year and they know for a fact that it's a hit record in the clubs?

Here I am busting my ass working so that I can afford my $400 a month habit so that in turn I can go out there and place some descent shit and Joe Smoe didn't spend a dime and he has the gigs. Something is wrong with that picture. What if everyone quit spending money on music Joe Smoe would take over with his low quality downloaded files and then what would happen to Indie lables??? Do You know how many labels in Detroit closed shop this past year???

I would never let that cold, harsh, stairsteppy aliasing touch my bunghole! I'll take some good old fashioned analog TP any day! :D
Seriously though, it looks very neato. I would like to hear it.

I'm still trying to locate it on the net. I'm hoping this isn't a creative person getting smooth with Photoshop. You would think it wouldn't be that hard to find.

I spoke to Eitan at Sapphires yesterday.
Apparently it won't be available in the UK till mid Jan/Feb & will cost around £700 to compete with the Pioneer 1000mkII. It does have a spinning platter & a prototype will be at this weekends Plasa show so expect the Technics stand to be rammed !

The wheel apparently comes full circle. I own the Technics SL-P1300..a broadcast quality unit with pitch control that they released about 10 years ago...very advanced for its time but it weigh 20lbs if its an ounce...interesting

I would buy it in a heartbeat for that price.
