a while ago a lady friend and i had a conversation about
my music. her observation was that the during the period of my life when i was going through a lot of changes and i was DOWN a lot of time, i was writing some of the warmest, most gorgeous music she has ever heard me write.
but she also said, now that i've picked myself up out of the slump, that i have been writing really cold, dark, mechanical, pieces.

i agree, for some reason now that i am doing fine i have had no desire to write what we on this board would typically think of as HOUSE. aside from the occasional dabble into psychedelic Rock & Roll, i have only been writing tracks with an industrial techno/gothic feel.

another friend of mine has noticed the same thing about himself when it comes to writing songs. to me it seems really backwards that we were both writing these really pretty deep house songs before when we were DOWN, but now that we are both doing ok all we write are dark pieces.

has this ever happened to anyone else?

GOthic??? I thought gothic was a europian thing,,, all gothics over here in HOlland really hate house music and other sorts of black music,,, although in cyber gothic they sample all their shit from old chicago and rave trax. HAAAA they just use the sample cd,s without knowing where the originals come from.

I make the best music when i got a boner,,,, im such a perv smile.gif biggrinangel.gif

hey aLie,
I dont make much music myself but as a listener of music I have found that when an artist experiments with new sounds/styles this is when they are the most exciting and interesting, and this gives them more longevity too.
Like when Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock stepped out of their traditional Jazz and started to experiment with different fusions, this is the stuff that I really liked, and reaches a far greater audience.
All great artists/DJ's never play just house or disco, they encompase many styles and create new ones. This is why I think underground house and disco is still going strong because of the open mindedness of the community.

Sounds like you are letting your creative process flow naturally.

agreed completely but it's not like the music i have been writing now is any less passionate or is less emotional. it just has a different feel.

most of my lyrics are basically a thanks (followed by the middel finger) to any and everyone who has ever held me back in anyway, including myself. really positive stuff, but with a lot of angst behind it.
