Anyone lucky enough to have snagged one of the 'Ugly Edits Vol. 4' white labels yet? If so, any feedback/reviews? I've been told by at least 20 people there are less than 100 floating around, so I feel rather blessed to have scrounged one.
love thomos!

haven't heard it, but i'm curious to find out if this one will get bootlegged like the previous three ugly edits. apparently theo wasn't too happy to see bootleg copies of those, and has in turn asked the shops he's delivered copies of ugly edit 04 not to sell copies oversees, or through the internet. i just tried ordering a copy of sound signature 018, and they weren't even allowed to sell those through the internet.

Yeah, he's surely overdoing it now. If you have a massive following like he has why limit the number of copies of your releases to such an extent than almost nobody who loves your work can get a copy? Are people from outside of Detroit not allowed to play TP productions?
It'll be a matter of weeks before copies of those pop up on Ebay and reach serious amounts of cash, so far for the theory of only fans buying the limited number of copies. Honestly, I'm starting to think that Theo himself is flogging them off on Ebay, 100 copies going for $100 or more, not a bad day's work...
Sadly enough I'll be one of the people buying one of those, because I love his stuff to death.

oh and sueno, you're absolutely right about theo making money of other peoples productions. but these bootleggers have also bootlegged amp dog's knights 'i'm doing fine', apparently theo is afraid that they'll also bootleg those sound signature promos before they get an official release.

There's a simple remedy: don't send out promos. The whole promo culture is parasitic, and I don't quite understand why Theo Parrish and Moodymann haven't taken a more UR stance regarding print runs etc. I'm also a massive fan of Theo's output, but no records are good enough for me to blow all my funds on them. If they never get a proper release, tough, I'll pass. I'm not shelling out $90 on ebay for an advance copy of stunning Theo deepness, never mind a crap re-edit.

Hear hear!
But sadly enough I'm to weak a character to stand missing anything by Theo, so my $90 will be found somewhere...
graemlins/spanka.gif ing myself for it...doesn't help...

Actually, that was a bit of a harsh rant. Theo's lucky that sales warrant keeping Sound Signatures in print, and he does a good job of it. I suppose it's not entirely his fault that every release is accompanied by rumours of "only 100 copies, snap it up!".
I still think promos are shit.

I still think promos are shit. Yeah, Ebay's probably partly to blame for that. Some sellers have studied the marketing textbooks quite extensively and rumours are quickly spread through the internet.
But on the other hand, I think Theo has to live with the fact that if you make very limited unauthorized edits they're bound to get bootlegged.

PS I got nuthin' against promos, just as long as I'm at the receiving end :D

These Theo/KDJ old wives tales are turning into classics.
Why do these Urban House Legends work? Because people want to believe.

geez - you sure know how to kill a thread virgo.. :D
being the co-chairman of the Theo Parrish fan-club, I find all this to be real sad. I will not pay that much for any record, regardless of who made it. And quite frankly, those disco edits he did are not worth it. I rather buy some of his more "classic" productions than his edits, "Slowly Surely" being the exception as you feel his sound signature all over it.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I can understand why Theo is angry about those bootlegs, but I guess, if it comes to Editing and stuff, there are no legal ways of doing it. Like someone stated before the original artists wouldn't be too happy with Theo editing their work without permission. MAybe Theo shouldn't have palced his name behind those Ugly Edits, then the hype wouldn't be half as big as it is now. Especially if you take in mind that some of his edits were very sloppy and a little bit uninspired. Ugly Edit 1 and the Theo beat on number 2 are here to be viewed as exceptional. I'm a big Sound Siganture and KDJ fan myself, but recently it seems to go out of hand. Just like a lame popstar thing. And the worst is, the more KDJ and Mr P are trying to work against it the more their stardom will rise. Sad thing.
Back to the music:
What has been edited on no. 4?

word, why is theo putting his name on those "edits" anyway? He is ripping off loops of classics. Might as well filter it like the french, at least they are doing something to the loop. I listened to those records almost all the way through before I realised nothing happened. His records are getting worse, and his ego. Do you read his liner notes? This guy thinks he is making something other than house? Theo has quickly become a carl craig producer type for me, releasing music which doesn't nearly live up to the things they say, and believing "the hype" about themselves.
KDJ is still the mother****ing man and can do no wrong.
