Got my copy of Cloud Nine Thursday afternoon from Capital City Records here in DC and played the giddy up shit out of it Fri & Sat night... the original version early to start the night out, along with some of the Brand New Heavies remixes and then played the Quentin Harris Shelter mix once the club got going and its definitely a beautiful song. The dancefloor loved it.
I can already guarantee there will be those naysayers complaining that it just sounds like everything else, that its boring or what have you, and thats fine... by all means, everyone has their own opinion, but the joint is hot to death in mine....
Peace

Peace I picked up a pair last, and the damn thing has not left the turntable yet. Okay so I've been listening to one song for about three days now.
I think the song is beating. Leave the nay sayers to their side of things.
When they go out and hear, then they'll be looking for it.
Peace

Man,I have been looking for it here in Chi to no avail.Anyone seen it here?I am very surprised DustyGroove does not have it in.They had the Spinna remixes and was one of the first places in the city to have ANYTHING by Donnie a few years ago.
It may have to wait til I get in town in a few weeks and just get it at DT.

P.S., while we're on the topic, does anyone think the song is a bit fast? I can only stand listening to it at around -2 to -4.
Seems to me like someone messed up the mastering, or some machine was out of calibration pitch wise.

As for the speed....
I haven't listened REAL close yet, the only times I've heard it all the way through where in the club and I was otherwise occupied with listening that closely, and I'm not positive where my pitch was, but I'm sure it was somewhere in the -2 to +2 range and I thought it sounded fine...
You know what song sounds real funny to my ear sometimes, all dependant on the pitch its played at is the Carlos Sanchez - Spirit of the Dance...
the guys voice is nice, but if you have it at certain places on the pitch, it sounds weird.
Peace

I like Donnie's stuff and I do know I can dismiss stuff too quickly sometimes (until I find my toes tappin on the dancefloor). Then I kick myself for not liking something early on.

Its killing dance floors, definitely, and it gets girls all worked up in a frenzy, and its a great use of a sample but as an overall song as a combined entity I don't enjoy it.
I like parts of it, I don't like the whole. It reminds me of the AV8 Records mega-mix DJ tools.
I don't really feel Jay-Z. His delivery is boring as hell. He's got great words, great ideas, but boring ass wanna be too smooth for your own good delivery.... and I hate it when an MC drags his words past the beat like he ain't got any rhythym. I just think the song would be better musically with someone else like Meth or maybe even Redman on it but I can also agree that it wouldn't be the hit it is today, because after all... like you say time and time again TAC...
people are sheep.
Putting two of the biggest stars in urban entertainment on one track, combined with the love affair hype and press is a brilliant business move.
I mighta went to Dream once, but I ain't fallin for THAT okey-doke yet. baaaaaaaaaaaaaah

I must say I'm still not going Ape over "Rideaway Getaway". I haven't heard it out in a club, though, which can sway me for sure. I do like the Blaze instrumental alot.

Yeah, I've arrived! Now I deal with scenarios like the below and have no time for you closed-minded House-heads (said jokingly)...
AIR patron: Hey, DJ...when you gonna play my girl?
Me: Huh? Your girl?
AIR patron: Yeah, man. My girl!!
Me: ummmm
AIR patron: You know..Ashanti!!! My girl Ashanti!!!
Me: ooohhhh....ummm....that will be played later on

Oh without a doubt. Thats why I'm not interested in being a club hip-hop DJ.
Yes at times even i am a sheep. But I think this time, your way too deep.
HAHA definitely. I have already accepted that I'm pretty much unpleasable when it comes to hip-hop. I don't care for the "say as many words as you can in a measure" underground hip-hop, I don't care for the commercial big club radio bangers, and my narrow field of artists I do like is narrowing at a quick rate. Its depressing sometimes honestly because I can't figure out if its me or the music that's changed SOOO much.
Jay who, Beyonce who? Oh that's by them!
HOW ABOUT THE SONG IS SIMPLY FUN!!!The song is fun for what it does to the women, it gets them open, I can appreciate that. At the same time, a HUGE reason it gets any of them open is because of who its by... you say it every day, people are sheep. That doesn't just apply to house.
Its got its time and place, it does well in that setting, so in the end, thats all that really matters. Just remember that 8 months from now when its not fun anymore and you don't hear it ever again... unless its in a throwback set to make us remember the good ole days from 6 months ago.
Peace

Back to the topic at hand...
Do we realize that in the current state of house music and record sales, that if say TAC were to big up some random record from some small label that no one had heard of, and it was truly hot, and say 50% of the DJ's on here picked it up...
TAC could have single-handedly caused that record to be what many labels would consider a success. Hell, even if 25% picked up a copy, that could be the difference between an artist getting a 2nd or 3rd single out or going back to their day job to never be heard of again.
Damn.
Peace
