Does it throw your groove off to have a bright ass camera in your face? Do you feel it is an invasion of privacy? Do you care at all? I've never really minded but last night I was doing the filming for the first time and there were people that didn't sem to mind and others didn't too much care for it. Should I ask first??? Your thoughts.

In Detroit, I HATED that isht! Bright lights from video cams and flashes from cameras are jarring, to say the least. And yeah, while I did get my pic in the paper (insert cheesy smile here), it was annoying...thought I was gonna have a seizure like those Japanese kids watching that crazy cartoon a few years back! And the brothas taking pix of chicks dancing at other parties was kinda strange...were they taking pix just for the fun of it, or was something more devious at work???? The coup de grace (French for that was some bull-isht) was when a brotha asked me and my girl if he could take a pic of us, even after he had been doing so all night...why start being polite now?

Soul in the Hole I don't mind too much if I'm just hanging out and the camera person isn't all paparazzi like. The only time it would bother me is if I'm getting my smoke on in a corner and in comes camera ... I love my smoke but the 20/20 viewing audience doesn't need to know that. :D

I hate it. If you want to know what the party is like come to the party. It is invasive and annoying and increasingly a pervasive hazard on the dance floor. One of the my most memorable bad times at a dance party involved being hit upside the head with a professional video camera when coming up from doing some floorwork and going home with a knot on my forehead. Needless to say I had not given the person taping permission to film me nor was any notice that recording would be happening posted at the entrance to the party.

Discogoddess they were indeed o.c. with the cameras that night.

If it a place that is open to the public than so be it. But if it is a private party then one should ask b-4 taking pics.

It depends on the angle from which the video is being shot. If it is on the soul train style of filming graemlins/nono.gif I will promptly sit down.

I think it's cool if you want to make people act totally un-natural and really aware of themselves.

i do not like being photographed, much less filmed. and i hate all things to do with reality TV, Big Brotherism and 15 minutes of dubious fame.

when i was promoting, i allowed private photography W/O flash up to a certain point (i.e. where i thought all the picturetaking got invasive). where it got too commercial, i usually asked for a fee straight up.

i had this one particular incident, where a lady from a large private German network called up, wanting to do some entertainment portrayal of young urban single party people (one of these TV programmes that pretend to scout the In-crowd at the In-spots, etc.) the club i was running had been built up from scratch over the previous seven years without any public funding whatsoever and without any kind of media attention over the first five years or so. we used to try and place our operation with all types of media, and they never gave us the time of day. needless to say, we eventually became rather famous and hip, and enjoyed quite a reputation, overseas no less.

so this lady went on about how they wanted to come down on our biggest night and film the beautiful people and do some game show casting and all that. i asked her straight up what she was willing to pay for the opportunity. so she started stuttering about how she had to get back with her people in charge. i said "cool, i'll wait".

she called back 5 minutes later to tell me that that was not the done way, and how this was supposed to be an honour for me/us, and about opportunities for kids to get on national TV. i told her that i was sorry, but that this was a private operation, and that i was not in the opportunities line of business - not unless you cut me in for a share of the deal. other than that my prerogative was to act in the club's long term interest, and not to supply some TV-trendzine with content du jour. and i hung up.

so now you know who's singularly responsible for house not breaking big-time graemlins/acclaim.gif

peace. ngeso.
