What kind of track do you like Raw, Basic, simple?
Or a Lush, Melodic, Soulful flow with vocals?

I like good music.Sometimes the lush and full out productions can sound overproduced.Just think of the later EWF lps, that's overproduction.Find what works for you and don't try to follow a sound or trend.Create your own sound....Create your own trend.

I love the lush stuff but I think that consuming too much of it in one sitting gets sickening and you need to get raw to spice things up and take it to the next level. I'll use the bootleg remix of "Bourgie Bourgie" by Ann Nesby as an example. It's not even that fast but it has great energy in it. Whoever did it gets a big thanks from me. I love it and I love the harder stuff along those lines.

Those are my favorites for that raw sound I dig.I can hear a GU solo from a mile away.Peep out Abicah Soul....

Boogie Wonderland comes to mind when you mentioned "overproduced" EWF.
Im not trying to follow a trend, but maintain a balance between reading a crowd/popular opinion and introducing something new and ground breaking.
Producers like Nile Rodgers, Rod Temperton, Jimmy Ross, Kashif, Mtume, Quincy Jones and others had a big impact on me.
Engineers Like Francios Kavorkian(noted more for his DJing-but a overlooked engineer). He was a wiz @ clarity......He did a lot of mainstream records but its never mentioned.
I have to know where we have been to know where I am going.......

i love a track that will just sweep me away. mostly i like lush, full arrangements. sometimes, a raw track can get you into a trans-like state pushing hot-buttons with simple deviations.
generally i've gotta vote for lush... my only wish NOW is that these new artists would slow down thier lyrics. hold a note once in a while. we don't ALWAYS need a complex poetic narrative of your life and times. can anyone scat anymore? how about a nonsense word or two? throw in some ooh's and ahh's for good measure. why everybody gotta be a rapper? dang.

i like a nice raw track that's real percussive and tuff to break up a set of vocals. or vice versa really.

I like a bit of both. But I'm getting tired of the lush stuff. Shit sounds like lite jazz with a kick drum sometimes.
Lush is nice for sitting at home or a lounge, but when I'm at a party, I like my music like I like my sex:
R A W!!!
