View Full Version : Suggestions for Stress?
What do some of you do in order to relieve yourselves from stress. I'm going through a rough time right now and normally I'd get myself some drinks and start smoking to ease the pain and forget about my troubles, but I'm no longer going in that direction and I want to kick that awful habit. I've tried reading and playing music which usually helps, but I can't concentrate right now to focus on the material I'm reading or the music I'm playing. Any suggestions? I'm going to church...maybe that will help. :(
work out, play catch, hoop, hit the heavy bag, stop jerking off...

When I am wired and stressed I run a hot deep bath, burn some good incense and play Coltrane. Post-bath I retire to my bed and drift off with the music still playing...

Albert i have had a tough time over the last 3 years(splittin up with long term gf,doing an honours degree, family being ill and lots of other sh.t)this has been tough and i suffered really bad panic attacks and stuff.nowadays i seem to cope with it a lot easier than before. Most of the time i do breathing excercises and i flyfish a lot which helps.i think one of the most important things to do is to keep doing what you have always done(recreational wise and enjoyement wise). Maybe even take up excercise or more of it.I also find that putting youreself in situations where stress increases sometimes learns you to deal with it better when it crops up again. Relaxation and breathing excercises is a definate help and long hot baths and treating yourself now and again defo helps(day out ,fun time with friends ect). The other thing about stress is that sometimes it can drag you down and make you feel like you are in a hole or not getting anywhere.I would say that if you feel stressed out panicky even just alittle down just keep telling yourself that "you are not going to feel any worse and that its only a setback before you feel on top form again. My stress has kinda been continual but that is probably because i have been continously under extreme pressure.Hopefully the stres will die a bit now im not so busy with studying ect ect.
Relaxation,enjoying youreself,going for a walk,talking to friends,treating youreself(take away cake ect),sports,breathing excercises.
GOOD LUCK HOPE YOU FEEL BETTER SOON :D graemlins/thumbsup.gif

definitely working out or some form of excercise helps reduce stress. i think yoga is great, but one of the more physical types like iyengar which incorporates some meditation. smile.gif

Seriously though, Just stop and think about the stuff you're grateful for, I'm sure you could list at least 10 things.
But if you can't watch Jerry Springer for 10 mins, that will make the list easier... :D
Many thanks to those of you that put in some serious advice. As for the rest of you jokers... graemlins/spanka.gif Oh well, at least I can always count on DHP for a good laugh. I'm feeling better now.
Shalewa...incense and dwindling away into la la land while Coltrane plays in the background sounds pretty darn good to me. Thanks. ;)
Beaniboy...I can definitely relate to your story. Sounds a lot like what I'm going through, among other things. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and advice.

Re-focus the lens by takin inventory of that which is important in your life. Congrats on your new path, may your journey be a fruitful one. For me it's always my lil girl that makes those monkeys get off my back. Although I don't know how's it goin to be when she's a teen, so I cherish it all now. It also helps to yell at the top of your lungs to a yellow cab driver, any one will do. They make great sounding boards. AR15firing.gif AR15firing.gif

Albert - sorry i missed this thread. just take time to hang your friends. i know you may not be up to it, but force yourself. im not talking about your party friends either. if its girl problems you have, dont go forcing yourself to be with someone you really dont want to be around anyway. just be your self. you might even want to volunteer to do some community work to keep yourself busy. it will make you feel good about who you are. time will heal your pain, so mae sure you spend your time doing productive things in your life and not negative. there have been times when i was down and ijust gave myself to my work. without even noticing my pain had passed, time passed and i ended up getting a promotion.

Ive been through some serious stresses in my lifetime. all kinds of stuff . .oh the stories, the stories. graemlins/scared.gif :D
i pray for strength, understanding, guidance and always thankfulness.
I reflect on how previous tough times resolved themselves and how i moved on eventually and that gives me faith. i read inspirational books, just finished "The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success" - deepak chopra. ;)
gotta laugh! somehow. i watch funny movies. laugh at what an idiot conan is!
work it out! dance hard, skate hard, sex hard. whatever it is you can really work a sweat up,endorphin overflow you know.
if you have good trustworthy friends, talk about stuff. pour it out with whatever form of expression you feel like. i write, draw -oh and yeah i cry alot.let it out.
be congruent with yourself.
go out and smell the spring air. appreciate nature, get some sunshine.
have faith and wonder. you never know what life will bring - yeah sometimes it hurts, but then again joy is waiting just around the corner for you and will surprise you once again.
peace
