can i just open up a discussion of the bullshit that music lovers and music makers have to put up with from their neighbors? i really need to rant on this.
my neighbor complains about our house music in our place. we are both owners, and we share an adjacent wall.
we spent about $6K soundproofing our studio, the works, raised floor, double walls with soundboard, everything. then we even built another wall that covers the other side that touches her place.
and we live in a pretty gritty area of oakland. it's not east oakland, but it's pretty damn raw.
but the neighbor has no life and will not leave us alone because she can hear a light tapping sound from the vibration of the low end.
however, she doesn't care about the cars going by that pump massive low end out of their systems.
doesn't care about the little pit bull farm the other neighbors seem to have going where the dogs bark all night.
doesn't care about the cocktail parties the young yuppie neighbor throws across the way.
it's just US that's the problem, apparently, and that MUSIC because for some reason she can't understand we cannot(will not) TURN DOWN THE BASS.
so we decide to move. we decide to sell our place that we did all the work on. we just can't take the stress of her knocking on our door with her little chihuahua and her scrunched up face telling us 'we are lowering her quality of life', 'she was here first', 'it doesn't matter how loud it is it just bothers her', etc.
and just when we get a buyer who makes us an offer, what does she do?
she threatens the realtor saying that there is a noise problem because we have an adjacent wall and if the buyer comes in making noise, she will 'take legal action'.
so now she won't even let us sell our place, apparently she's going to harrass all our buyers away too.
unf*ckingbelievable.
what is up with neighbors who think they are at the center of the universe?

you should ask around and see if anything she is doing is illeagal. i would also see if there is anything not legal right with her house and if so call the city on her ass. if all else fails scare her to death.... stoopid hag!

what is up with neighbors who think they are at the center of the universe? This is exactly why I didn't even consider buying a condo when we were ready to own. I was looking to have my own basement where I could play my music as loud as I wanted to. We choose a corner lot where we only have two neighbors one in back and one on the side and they are far away. What I don't understand is that she is better off not interfering with you guys moving. She will most likely get non Djs as new neighbors. Oh by the way does her dog bark at all ?
unf*ckingbelievable!! graemlins/cussing.gif

while we were mixing down a song, my friend's landlord came up and asked if we were using heavy machinery.

what I've found in the past is that these people carry such a profound sense of self-loathing and negativity around with them that you simply cannot please them
such psychotic individuals should refrain from living in residential areas of any kind of density
i've felt your pain :(

Go over to her house, call a truce get chummy with her for a while, after a few days or a couple of weeks invite her to your place for tea or coffee & cookies.....................then drop some acid or X in her drink and play your music graemlins/rofl.gif
Seriously, ask your realtor about legal action taken against her, she is trippin, miserable and lonely. That is harrassment

Step to the neighbor and just say,
"Look, we just bought a new sound system for our new home, however, your comments to Realtors and potential buyers is having an adverse effect on selling our current home. If you continue to interfere, I will take this as a clear indication that you want us to remain as your neighbor. If that is the case, then I will install the new sound system, and expect that you will not complain. So what is your preference?"

Oh yeah, Eileen. Your neighbor's a real ass-goblin.
Find out where she works. Have one of your seedier friends (You've got a music studio, you've GOT seedy friends) walk past her in the parking lot. As he passes, have him smear a little blue chalk on her clothing. She'll look down at her clothes. When she looks up at the guy, have him calmly say, "I can get this close to you at anytime. Here, at home, anywhere. Complain about the goddamn music from your next door neighbors just one more goddamn time and I'm gonna get a LOT closer. I'm not ****in' around with you here. Do you understand? No, SAY, 'I understand.' Good. There won't be any ****ing blue chalk next time, honey." Then he walks away.
Or just bake her a nice bundt cake and invite her over for "Sex in the City".
Y'know. Either/or. tee-hee-hee...

:D oh, that just killed me, thank god i still have a sense of humor about the whole thing (barely).
i'm printing this list out and starting with the suggestions about finding violations on her place, etc.
hopefully i won't have to get to the assassination suggestions...
(gman i am emailing you for the other idea you have)
so glad this board is here right now, much thanks to everyone for the support!!!!
the buyer is coming over today for the inspection and he'll meet the neighbor...i'll post the update later.

This is against the law!
She is interfering with the sale of your home. She has no say in who can live in your property. Constult with a lawyer and get them to write her a heavy handed letter and threaten her with a lawsuit due to her actions. This should remedy the situation.

file harassment charges against her and try to get a restraining order that makes her stay more than 1000 feet away from you ... then SHE'll have to move since being in her own home would violate a court order.
I have a nasty biyotch that lives downstairs from me. She has called the cops easily 50 times and left me numerous offensive notes and letters.
Eventually, she did her research - apparently in NYC, 70% of your exposed floor has to be carpeted. So, she went on a rent strike and the landlord had to pay thousands to carpet my apartment (of course, I picked the nicest, most expensive carpet I could find). Anyway, she screwed herself, because now if I play my music loud, she can't say $hit because my floor is carpeted. The walls in the building are really thin, too,
IMHO, if you want peace, quiet, solitude and silence, maybe you shouldn't live right in the middle of new york city! duh! AR15firing.gif
One other thing: if she is coming to your door or pounding on the walls, this IS harassment and you should call the police. When they come, file charges against her. As long as you're not playing the music at all hours of the late night, it is not considered disturbing the peace. Think about it - during the day, your landlord can do construction in your building and rip floors up!!! Garbage trucks make so much racket! Why shouldn't you be able to make some damn noise too?
