Tracks From The Park is whats up. I got this record in the beginning of February for keeping a dog until my boy could come from Atlanta to get her. I don't know what the names of the tracks are called, but every track is the shit. Good looks Trev.
How is Trevor these days? I can't believe Chilla gave the dog back...

I know!!! I sho will be fun though!!! The kaiser said that I saved the dog a death sentence. Plus sometime I think that is the only thing Trevor really loves.

She is my friend. She is helping me get to a certain destination. She is definitely one of the people that is teaching me the game. She has run a label and by far the most successful record store in Pittsburgh. Almost half of my collection is from her.(if not more) She is getting it all together slowly but surely. Just remember one thing for a long long time in this city if no hypervinyl there would have been no good dance music.(until 720 came about)

I have a system for working with her. It is as follows:
1. follow her instructions exactly as stated.
2. look her in the eyes when she is talking to you
3. admit when you made a mistake, if you don't
admit your mistakes she gets pissed.
sounds like you might be doing more than working for her...he he ha ha
When she says jump do you ask how high?

F**K you!!! I just know what it takes to work for her. Remember this is my second tour of duty now. I just want to make this time work. I love that store. It has gotten me through some tough times. I would not want to be associated with any other store in Pittsburgh as I am with Hypervinyl )even though I love the whole 720 posse) Where in the Burgh can you go and find Basic Channel Records to Good House Music???

I'm not really sure how that shit is going to work. I haven't been to the office much lately, so I'm feeling out of the loop. Moe told me that he didn't want to do anymore nights anywhere, other than one big party a month. I guess this is his big party of the month. Is he going to have the whole club or just one of the rooms?
Who is playing at IG on Sunday? Have you seen that Sean Paul video where they are in the basement of someones house? I can't help but think about IG every time I see that.

I wish there were more joints like that 'bashment' party. That's the type of gig where cats could really let loose. I'm sorry though, you don't get that kind of vibe at house gigs. At least not here in PGH. Don't get me wrong, it gets good sometimes, but not really crankin'!

Four rooms. I do not watch t.v. All I have is a computer. with a net connection. Listen to tony humphries live@ always. I hope i can sound like him someday. tony humphries is my hero. smooth like butter baby. yo i am in my living room dancin and jumpin up and down. this file reminds me of how lava lounge used to be. that was the shit. all the pretty women and some ass shakin house music. i miss those days that was beatiful.
I miss those days too...remember when Soba was a club?
Four rooms, so who are the other DJs?

Damn, what's happening to this city? Where has all the ****ing energy gone?

yeah i missed the hey day of soba when spike was there. i was too young. always tried to go to kaya on sunday nights also never would let me in. go home little boy thats what they would say. remember how i used to look like i was about 18 years old and weighed like a buck thirtyfive. Toomuch no disrespect ok but people just refuse to come out why?? lets get this shit jumpin by gettin everyone out. dont talk about saturday i had to work. let all support everyones shit and see what happens then. like it used to be. i just aint supportin no stupid ass Etard nights. I have come to a conclusion that between all peeps that play good music our scene could be that much better if we all support each other. we all got the vibe also.
well said vinny, well said!
toomuchtv...yes, there is a Sushi bar upstairs. It's suppossed to be the best in the city!
SHEIK YERBOUTI
04-09-2003, 12:37 PM
Speaking your mind isn't disrespect, yo. Trouble is, us supporting each other doesn't make that much difference. In the end it would be the same few cats at every gig. My question is how do we, you, me, u, etc, get ****ing Joe Doughnut out to the gigs? That's the problem right there!
I'm not trying to NOT support all-star game for example. I'm just as bad as anyone else, I just hardly ever go out PERIOD, anymore. I can't ****ing stand PGH sometimes. I do need to start hitting IG on sundays again. My bad about that.
As for saturday night, too bad you couldn't make it, we rocked that shit, yo. For real.

Lets all think positive. Let all spread the sound of real dance music. I know we are on Jupiter compared to almost everyone here. If we keep pushin our sounds then it has to suck peepz. What we need to do is get brothaz and sistaz into this shit. I am bout to stand on east ohio this summer and pass cd's out. also east lib, and garfield. gotta get brothaz and sistaz into this shit smile.gif graemlins/beerchug.gif graemlins/beerchug.gif graemlins/beerchug.gif graemlins/beerchug.gif

Now see, I've been saying that to cats FOREVER!!!
I just didn't want to go there. I remeber the first time me, Aaesir and Yuji played Deli Company. I was rocking Mr. Oizo and Random Noise Generator and was shocked as hell when a couple of brothers asked me what I was playing. I NEVER expected these cats to trainspot.
Trouble is, most of these cats probably don't even know music like this EXISTS. If WAMO doesn't play it, it might as well be coming from Mars... You know who things are run in this dead-ass city.

if we get brothaz and sistaz we never have to try to convert the wack ass Etard peepz into sophisticated music listeners. All it take is finding the right sistaz and the brothaz will come. Also got to get the gay scene more deeply involved with the real house pittsburgh movement. too bad everyone is a damn homophob.

Well, gay might have something to do with it, but to me it's more straight up BLACK and WHITE.

all the gay clubs play some straight up b.s. we need to get them in on the deal also. so I never have to talk to zelch or bromage again on the edge of whoopin one of their asses over if the ever give me a reason mad1.gif mad1.gif mad1.gif mad1.gif

Well, that goes back to the issue not being just gay, but Black and White. I haven't been to any, but aren't the gay/lesbian clubs in PGH White? In PGH, it's all about black/white. If the white folks like it, is must be good. mad1.gif
Now I'm assuming the Zelches and Brommage are talking shit cause their nights are kinda popular, right? there goes all that rave shit again. I can barely get upset cause you know I've been complaining about that shit for years. **** 'em.
As long as they don't come to my side of the woods with that shit, they can do whatever the hell they want. Once again, **** 'em.

As an ex Pittsburgher (I`ve been away for about 15 years) watching your post is kinda interesting. It`s like looking at my past. My old man is always trying to get me to come home and it never works. I can remember being in Pittsburgh when WAMO was playing Kraftwerk and a lot of the cool shit from " The Garage". a la Sharon Brown`s "I Specialize in Love", "Dinosaur L`s "Go Bang", Wood, Brass and Still`s "Funkanova". I`m glad you brought up the racial angle because that`s something that most peeps in dance music don`t want to talk about. It`s interesting that African-Americans don`t listen to house, techno or garage anymore.

Visit your family, of course, but DO NOT MOVE BACK!!!
The racial angle in PGH is exactly the dynamic I'm speaking of. Black people don't dig house, techno, garage, etc cause they think, "That's some WHITE shit." Hell, until some cats opened my eyes, I thought techno was More white-oriented cause all I heard was the second wave from Europe/Belgium. Only later did I learn the Detroit connection. I've been into house a LONG time and I always knew house was multiracial, but out here they always downplay the more 'ethnic' elements, nahmean? And don't get me started on trance (shudder)...
Unless cats have graduated to real shit, most cats in PGH only know, play what's most comfortable to them. It's always their own friends, etc. Typical bullshit, ya know?
BTW, did you peep my mention of the making of "Aja" DVD?

So what is your opinion of "Mad" Mike Banks? Mr. UR himself. Have you gotten into any of his stuff? Check the "Galaxy 2 Galaxy" double. Banks is on some serious shit. I dig some of the cool "techno/jazz/funk" of Kirk Degiorgio. I can remember when "techno" was funky and black and played on black radio stations.
Someone once asked Kenny Dope "Why his record "The Bomb" did so well in the States" Dope replied: "Most of what passes for dance music is unfunky, and that most of the house/techno people don`t have funk backgrounds". The interviewer didn`t like Dope`s answer. "He said excussssse me for not being around during the seventies". Dope said "That`s no excuse for not knowing the history of this music".

Yo Arn where were you this past Sunday? Yo ass should've came out it was bangin'!
I was in pittsburgh from 96 to 02.
It was the 6 years that defined my love for music and dance, and it was also the training grounds for so many things...
Hypervinyl was, is, and always will be a trip!
Back when they first opened I remember going in all shy, and trevor eating my shit up, harrasing me on the daily.
I guess I got used to it tho, and hypervinyl obviously had a specific techno-edge to it, which was crucial in shaping my tastes.
Between Trevor and Jwan and the internet I wouldn't know diddly about detroit.
I had been into bboying videos and culture before coming to the burgh, but after peepin the mop-tops video I started following all the styles, especially housing. The few housers in pittsburgh (Like Ian) also kept me thinking and learning.
I got alot of fond memories of the burgh.
It's made me a lifetime stillers and panthers fan of course.
Looking back now I think i'll always have some yinz in me.
Alright, Ill stop reminiscin!

I can remember being on the roof of the store yelling at peepz and just having a good time. remember whe H.V. was about defiance??? Remember when H.V. was about purity of dance music?? Remember all the crazy shit we used to do in there while Csilla was out or just simply away in Germany. Were you around when the swat team came and almost arrested Chad for pulling a cap gun on a customer?? I just have so many hillarious stories for that place I love it and will try to help keep it here as long as I am in the Burgh. biggrinangel.gif

Or how about how Akil used to sit there and talk tall shit to John Bromage. Bromage would get so mad he would turn red in the face. Don't even forget about how many fine chicken headz there used to be walkin past and everyone from Ian to JWan screamin out the window at the ladies. Were you there at the labels first record party at the store. Remember how drunk the Kaiser got and passed out wrapped in that white sheet on the old car seat in the hallway of the store. memories sweet memories!!!!!

The music sucks at all of the clubs, but once upon a time some of the better house djs used to play at these clubs. Pegasus is the most popular, that is where we need to get one of our own djs in!
