Last Thursday in Algarve, south of Portugal, Louie Vega played a Strings of Life remix in Boogie-Woogie Style. The string section was substituted by a piano boogie across the song.

Louie played "Diamond life" under "French Kiss", "Can you feel it" and that Strings of Life Boogie remix and finally was mixing with "I can't get no sleep". Marvellous, He's the man.

Does anybody know who is the autor of that String of Life Boogie Remix?

Thanks in Advance

I think Danny's mix is SO much better than the old one.

Question: what the hell is boogie-woogie style?

Good day people.

Had this topic brought to my attention.

i may be wrong.. but I believe you are talking about a remix myself and my partner Paul (wikkaman)Timothy did back in 2001.

It came out on one sided white, and then on a double sided (radio edit on the flip).

We went under the name Hall & Mercy and just called it Strings.

It was the first track we ever put out.

Since then we have launched our own label, Clean Cut Records, and go under the name Soul Central.

Fingers crossed, this track will be resurfacing on the new Whistlebump label...along with the Danny Krivit edit.

For more info on Soul Central/Clean Cut Records.. contact us direct

I personally don't have it anywhere on line for you to hear it.. but it is very, very close to the original.

No samples, and a full piano solo added.

Danny Krivit's edit changes the arrangement but adds no extra instruments or effects... but I jusy got it from Whitslebump and we are excited about it.

correct info if you want to do a web search is;

HALL N MERCY - STRINGS 2001 - CAT.NO SC1002

FYI... This is also the backing track we used for the India "Lover who rocks you" remix we did as Johnny Rampin !!!

BTW, I think your mix rocks. Danny playedit at PS1 in Queens a few weeks back and people lost their minds. There must have been about 1000 people there.

Excuse me, it's only a sensation. I wrote that name because the piano's style remember me the old sound of pianist like Pete Johnson or Albert Ammons ( Boogie style 1940's years). When Louie Vega played "Strings of life" I can remembered the old jazz collection of my father

Cheers

Many thanks Andyward, I don't know your remix but when Louie's Set End, I could question to him about it.His answer was that he don't knew the autor. He played a CD-R

Boogie woogie, or just boogie, is an "instrumental form of blues, especially for the piano". Closely related to a barrelhouse or maybe roadhouse blues style of piano playing. The sound is described as "two-fisted" because it sounds like alternating between the right and left hands both playing chords... usually with copious amounts of "swing". Do not attempt to play or enjoy while sober.

graemlins/all_coholic.gif

Edit: here is a more technical definition which is also more accurate than mine

BOOGIE-WOOGIE: A piano blues style featuring percussive ostinato accompaniements. These steadily repeated bass patterns, one or two bars long, delineate the 12 bar blues progression. Melodies range from repeated figures, reinforcing the explicit beat (including tremolos, riffs, rapid triplets) to polyrhythmic improvisations. In other words, the Left hand keeps the rhythm, (or bass line, or ostinato), while the right hand sends the message. Boogie Woogie originated in "Turpentine Camps", in which low-paid workers would live together in a remote location gathering the sap from pine trees; often, a pianist would be hired to entertain the men at night --- the style permits one person to be both rhythm and harmony. Our favorite Boogie is "Pine Top's Boogie" by the legendary Pine Top Perkins.
