I felt the season finale was a bit of a let down - I was hoping for more. I was hoping the Greek dudes would have gotten caught at the airport.

Leslie, I did too! From the commerials and stuff I thought it was gonna be a really intense finale. Hell, last week's episode was better!

I felt in between.... They did just enough to leave you hanging for 9-10 months (I guess that's the point) I thought they covered too much of the Sobotka(s) dynamic instead of covering the possible reprecussions of Stringer's underhanded moves, which left him with 3 enemies @ the end....

The case just grew...whether we wait months or not. The drugs are gonna get big again next season.
2 Thoughts...
1. Will Avon somehow get out?
2. How did so much time pass without Avon learning that String gave half the Towers away?

The finale was weak. I thought they would have dealt with the Stringer Bell/Omar issue. I wanted the Greeks (who aren't Greeks) to get nabbed at the airport as well. All the little guys got pinched & the big boys live another day. The prior episode had more juice but I did enjoy the season. Looking forward to season 3. Omar needs to handle Stringer Bell.

Yes I believe Avon will get out - in fact they may let him out just to retrap him and everyone else yet again.
My favorite scene was when Stringer was talking to Avon in jail and Avon basically told him he played him self with the out of town enforcement (I never did really get his name Brotha ???)
So Stringer knows he's in some deep poopoo cause when Avon gets out and if Stringer is still alive Avon is gonna bury him.
Who do you think will get to Stringer first? Funny how they never showed him kicking it with DeAngleo's girl again. Do you think Proposition Jones will go down?
Next season should be interesting....

I was satisfied.
The girls in the can got solved.
Sabotka's grain pier went through.
There are the beginnings of what look like a rift between Avon and Stringer.
Brother Mazon(?) and Omar running wild through the same show? Can't wait to see that.
I'm content to wait until next season.

The worst part about this is the lack of background information on Stringer's character.
its Brother Mouzon, Sobotka and the union were actually against the Grainery, that is why they were paying so much loot to the lobbyist to get votes to vote against it. The Grainery is a condo development. This aspect is fascinating because it really goes into working class white Baltimore, which is a microcosm for all of working class white america, the point being is that working class people have a rough time of it regardless of race. But you never see it depicted that much or this raw on tv.
Funny thing is this demographic is really mainstream america. The whole Polish/Catholic dynamic was deep too, Growing up in Chicago we saw this first hand, except instead of Dockworkers they were steel workers or worse yet working in the slaughterhouses in the "back of the yards" in chicago.
The inner-harbor in Baltimore is constantly expanding, catering to tourists and yuppies at the expense of older neighborhoods. Weird to see gentrification make victims out of white families. Unions though are solidly democratic, but this group elected Reagan twice, and Bush senior once, and probably Bush II twice, all while jobs continue to flow overseas.
couple other thoughts, the "greeks" are russian mafia, imo, the show made a conscious effort to go away from a cop show supposedly starring McNulty, which turned into a shakespearena drama featuring the rise of a young black drug dealers' empire. Apparently, the whole dockworker aspect was to perhaps widen the audience. That was a bad move, IMO, because both story lines could have been developed separately, two different series actually, since both could be compelling standing alone, by combining the two they had to water them both down

never saw it, but i want to after hearing on NPR from the creator that the central theme of the show is the death of labor in the US

There were numerous episodes where guys would come in looking for work and only 1 or 2 ships where in. I do agree that both story lines had merit to stand on their own - if anything imo the drug plot was not as developed as it could have been - but perhaps that was on purpose given the ending the the hints as to how its going to proceed next season.
I wonder how Prop Jones got hooked up with the Russians and I want to know what it is the Russians know about terrorism that warranted them to be so protected by the CIA....

when the soviet union fell a lot of military materiel fell into the hands of the growing russian mob, including troops and nuclear armament, and a lot of that stuff hangs in the balance at this very moment. Preventing sales to Osama or Saddam is a full time job, the sacrifice is looking the other way on localized drug sales.
Avon was powerful because he had the territory and the supply, at least on that side of town, They probably stepped to Proposition Joe cause they could cut a better deal than with
Avon since Avon was so flush he was buying depressed real estate and buying politicians by the handful

It is still the best show on tv and i can't wait for that punk-ass Stringer to get his. Besides the fact that he is the only reason my woman watches the show(i told you i hate that mother****er)he showed his true colors when he got rid of D'angelo but i could see that Avon is losing respect for his ass and is gonna handle his ass the proper way when he gets out.

I love this show. I like the tight ass black sargent (name escapes me). He runs a tight ship and earned the respect of his crew and peers. The dopefiend aspect, the drug dealer aspect, the greed aspect, the working class aspect, McNulty aspect, the dyke and her woman getting ready to have a baby aspect, the street soldier aspect, the international aspect, political aspect, FBI and CIA aspect and on down the line. I can not wait until next season. "This is not one of your business calsses!" - Avon to Stringer. Bottom lineis Avon's dumb ass would have nothing without Stringer's sophistication. Watch the blind man too, I believe his part is going to expand. Don
t worry about the bow-tie. If he was supposed to be so damn 'bout it - how come Omar can just tax him like that?

I saw it last night and thought it was a wonderful example of art imitating life. The ones at the top got away and now the focus is back on the middlemen and the street-level dealers. We all want Stringer to get it but he's too smart. He got exactly what he wanted. Avon's a little perturbed but he's still behind him and he gave his blessing to a deal with Proposition Joe. Stringer can handle Avon. Brother Mouzon and Omar are the wildcards.
stringer is done, even blind butchie saw that

He's been around, knows the game and all the players and all the history. If you remember he made a reference to Avon's father - PLUS he's Omar's cousin.
