be thinkin though most peepz is scared to take it longer. it is more fun to play longer. get a six pack and see where it goes.
I was always used to playing 5-7 hours straight depending on the club, of course that was before clubs started using 3-4 DJ's on the same night. Too many cooks is not a good thing.....JMJ

i say one or two deejays for a night at a club. would wish people would do it that way. what is stupid is when you only get an hour. what sense does that make? an hour aint shit.
Two is reasonable. I don't like to play early, and it's nice to be able to take a break if you need to.....JMJ

I did a 12 hour set (chill out stuff mostly) once...****ing knackering. Anything less than 2 hours is pointless...I like about 4 or 5 hours in a perfect world.

I play 4 hours every Tuesday at a club here in ATL and its great when you can take the crowd with you on a journey but when they ain't with you or if I'm off (never that! smile.gif ) WOO, I can be a long night!

I would agree 3-4 hours is a good set. You can hit a lot of different stuff and allow it to develop.
Where in Atlanta do you play?

my ideal is playing 3-4 but, i can tell a nice little story in 2 hours.
anything less than that is unsatisfying, though i sometimes do play one hour sets.
**** it, i might as well make a little $$$.
if heads are willing to pay me for an hour set than i will definitely take them up on that offer.

2 hours is never enough. like you said vinny, the dj's just getting started. give the dj at LEAST 4 hours.

if you have excellent programming abilities (which i think i excel at) it should never be a task to just plain beat that shit.
i have had people completely **** my mind on the dance floor and they only played for an hour. i feel i have done the same also.

The first set I played for The Way We Were I played for under an hour and a half.I turned that bitch out.The only problem was I was getting spots for 2 hrs. and it changed the way I played.I was used to playing at least 3 hrs to myself. It's cool.I will still beat that shit whether it's an hour or 8 hrs.
My only issues I have is when spots have 80 freaking dj's.That's overkill. Now that I am older,I see what the older heads were talking about.

i agree that 2 hours is too short 100 percent
longer sets are much better.
if not it's just banging out a set, playing big tracks, blah blah.
longer sets are way better. i don't think it matters what genre either. i went to a planet of the drums night with dieselboy, ak1200 and dj dara (that jungle ;) ) and tney had 6-7 hours between them...switching whenever they wanted another beer. it was complete madness.

I played 2hrs last night, right after a live band. I started to set things on fire then, a bro came to me a said "Don't Play All The Hot Jionts Yet, Wait Until The Band Gets Off The Floor" I eased off. Then hit the gas squeezing all I could in that short time.
The other Jock after me only had a Hour to work with. :D

If you look at a night as if you were telling a story to the crowd then you need a beginning, middle, and end to it and this cannot be done in 2-3 hours. 5 hours minimum in an ideal setting but it seems like all the parties these days tend to need 10 dj's.....maybe some of these "dj's" dont have enough material or ability to hold it down themselves.
