PTF is more of a recording environment and I'm not totally sure how it fares in the sequencing dept. Logic is supposed to be much stronger as a sequencer and it's stacks up favorably against Cubase, one of the other big players. However cakewalk's SONAR is supposed to be one to watch, plus it's recently been made to work much better with VSTi soft synths, not just the old DXi standard.
I'm not totally familiar w/the functionality of the big three packages, but if you have copies, just try em out until you find what works best.
sorry to be so general.

- Logic
pro tools really ain't all that unless you have a full pro tools studio. which is mad $$$.
plus i'm a Mac user and all the later versions of Logic are for Mac only, which means full support.

sorry to be so general. agreed totally.
it really is all just a matter of personal preference.

For the Mac, I've had nothing but success with Digital Performer and MOTU hardware.

pro tools free is really just a light version of the full pro tools software .. it's not really comparable with Logic
if you're asking this question it's possible that Logic might be more than you need? i guess it would depend on what you need as pro tools free is a whole lot cheaper than logic smile.gif

thanks all... i have been using logic for a while now, i just get fustrated with it at times, but once i figure it out, i'm jammin. a few peeps on here suggested pro toos free for simpler things, we have sonar here too on the PCs, i'm playing with em all... just trying to find my groove, ya know.

there is no right or wrong answer. they all have the same basic functionality. it's all a matter of preference.
what do you prefer, bmw or mercades benz? both cars are nice, but do the same job. right? smile.gif

It is a matter of preference,
Logic is for seqencing and protools is great fo things like editing and mastering.
mind you there is so much going on in protools that I couldn't be bothered with it , and it's too expensive for my taste.
Logic for sequencing protools for mastering.
I am a cubase and reason man anyways........

If you are programming then you might find Cubase easier than Logic (and more to the point)
i do.
been using cubase for 12yrs now.

I've used both Cubase and Logic and personally I prefer Logic. With the Mac it is very stable.
Whatever you do, try to avoid working on a PC.
Anyways, that's my opinion.

i always try to avoid Mac's, they always crash on me ;)
anyway, i find logic completely unlogical ;)
check out cubase SX or SL 2, you can also combine this with Reason 2.5 through rewire2.....
an alternative which is getting very interesting lately: samplitude 7.2

i feel all you guys on the reason, i'm already in love with it. logic heads just seem so into logic and i've been trying to use it more (esp for sequencing), i just don't love it yet.
but i do love peak!! and whats up with cubase, do they have a mac version? i have it on the PC, but i like sonar better.

Hope some one may be able to help me with this 1 also. I used to use Cubase years ago and recentley Logic with a partner. I dont have loads of spare cash to flash, but I have a G4, usb interface (emagic). Free Pro tools and Peak vst, no midi interface. Couple of synths, drum machine. Can this potentially be got up and running to create basic recordings? I dont quite understand the relevance of the VST. Any help here would be most appreciated.

You will need an outboard Midi intrerface to use the synths and drum machines that you have.
but you can team that up will a VST program like logic or cubase and have them work together.
with those vst programs you'll be able to record vocals as well as long as you have a good audio card on your G4.
I almost forgot........
that you would need a mixing board to send out the sounds from your out board synths and Drum machines.
the VST programs will simply add more sounds and keyboards as well as effects and recording capbility to your setup as well as being a source of sequencing.
