FOX has announced that auditions for the third edition of "American Idol" are set to
start in Los Angeles on Sunday, August 3, 2003 starting at 8:00 AM at the Rose Bowl
in Pasadena, California. Participants can start lining up AFTER 12:00 Noon on Friday,
August 1.

"A Stamp for Marvin"
There is a move underway to get a postage stamp for revered soul singer Marvin Gaye. The campaign is called "A Stamp for Marvin," and the committee that is starting the campaign hopes to see their dream come true in time for Marvin's 65th birthday on April 2, 2004. The late soul singer was killed by his father almost 20 years ago.

happiness she feels eluded her mother, has a wild zany spirit even though she pursues a
conventional marriage, pop soprano, LEAD;
Tanya: late 30s-early 40s, former singer in the "Dynamos," rich, sophisticated,
acerbic, funny, witty, pop belt voice, good supporting role;
Rosie: late 30s-early 40s, also a former singer in the "Dynamos," now writes for and
runs a feminist press, confident, strong, funny on the outside but shy underneath,
kooky, fun, good comic actress, bit of a clown, actress who sings, good supporting
role;
Lisa: African-American, Latina-American, Asian-American, Native-American, or any
non-Caucasian, 18-25, Sophie's friend who arrives to be a bridesmaid, very energetic,
kooky, should sing and dance well, featured role;
Ali: Sophie's friend, impulsive, fun, should contrast Lisa and Sophie, should sing and
dance well, featured role, good supporting role;
Sam: 35-45, may be Sophie's father, left Donna 20 years ago because she was engaged

Sky: early -mid-20s, Sophie's fiance, athletic, attractive, given up his life as
successful young businessman in order to make over Donna's taverna and marry Sophie,
tenor, featured role;
Pepper: early-mid-20s, Sky's friend, helps run the hotel, charming, loves women,

Eddie: early-mid-20s, another friend of Sky and hotel worker, laid-back, easygoing,

Character Break-Down:

1-Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz-Lead(32-40) is considered the first feminist of the
Americas and one of the greatest poets of the Golden Age. Latina, strong actress, good
diction, bilingual, intellectual, outspoken, humorous and very charismatic.

2-Countess Maria Luisa de Paredes-Lead( 35-45) European, pretty, strong actress,
spoiled, passionate, temperamental falls madly in love with Sor Juana. She is the
equivalent of the Queen of Spain in Mexico. Good diction in English must speak some
Spanish. (Partial nudity)

3-Concepción-supporting(20's)Indigenous, innocent but sensual, must be able to move
well.

4-Francisca-African-American or African-Latina(20-35) comedic timing. She is Sor
Juana's cook and maid.

5-Melchora Mother Superior-supporting (45-60) strong actress, stern, but funny at
times. Good diction.

6-Don Manuel Bishop of Puebla- supporting(40-50) Intelligent, shady character, likes to
eat, and is jealous of Sor Juana. He betrays her.

7-Father Miranda-supporting(50-60) Sor Juana's confessor and member of the
Inquisition. European,thin looking and pale.

8-Archbishop-(50-60's)European, eccentric and a strict Catholic. Walks around with
tattered shoes. Dislikes Sor Juana and all women in general.
