Anyone know about this ? - I'm not talking about weekend party chemicals here, I'm talking about ...

Hed Kandi (http://www.hedkandi.com/)

This friend of mine (non-DJ or bigtime clubber) always rolls over my house with these compilations - most recently with the Beach House 04 03 CD - I was like "get that MTV Downtown Julie Brown DJ Scribble sh#t outta here" until he played it - I'm hearing recent Mambana & Hardsoul ...

And BTW, he bought this while he was on vacation in Texas, at a Tower Record store I think ...

Yeah. Now and then you find some nice stuff on those comps. Lately it's been mostly "Sexy House" (Thanks for the phrase, DHP}. You can find these comps all over the web nowadays.

Hed Kandi, another label promoting house! Didn't like some of the stuff on the comp I had but they are getting it out to the masses. Picked mine up at my local HMV.

Yeah, I thought it was cool that my friend (who wasn't really a huge house music person) had this CD, with a lot of cuts that I was playing at the time.

Aside from us DJs, seems like a great place for the average listener to find quality house product in a Value Meal smile.gif

Yeah I've picked up their stuff from Virgin and Tower. Some of the Stereo Sushi comps are nice too.

yeh alot of uk peeps own them discs and you are right it is a good way of letting non housey types tune into some decent stuff.

i think a lot of the young girls and stuff around here(scotland) own the hedkandi cds and it does get over some decent stuff.a lot of them also have sum reall crap on them too tho.

anyways at least people are buying the things.id rather that than robbie williams(fat karaoke singer)or ozzy osbornes non singer daughter getting more sales. ;)

Mark & Rachel at HedKandi are both very committed to keeping the house vibe alive... they do a radio show on Jazz FM (London) as well, and many of their comps are put out on vinyl too. Their CDs are mostly unmixed which makes them choice for DJs and fans alike.

In addition, think of the licensing money and publishing they've injected into the scene via their "Back to Love" and "Deeper" comps alone.

Kudos to Hed Kandi - it may sometimes seem like a lot of "coffee table house" but there's a time and a place for that, too.

Absolutely JMNYC - that's why I started this thread (given all the House is Dead threads), b/c aside from us DJs, other folks are helping push the scene along ...
