View Full Version : why am i being tested?
so i took an extra day off work to fly down to atlanta in order to attend my friend's bachelor party. then i find out that it is also one of the most solemn and holy days in the year for my religion. needless to say, i will not be in the mood to get drunk and ogle strippers.
are your tests ever so obvious? and yet so difficult? sometimes i feel like i am being set up to fail. but i also know to trust in God, and He will provide a way out.

Ray,that's a true test of faith for him.Imagine it..He's gonna be with his boys and a room filled with drinks and ladies and a religious issue hanging over his head.Hell,I think Jesus would have an issue with that one.No offense to the christians....

Will your God be with you or do you plan to leave him at the door..
I figure if you take him with you he will guide you and keep you from temtations and you will have more than everyone there.
well....thats how my god works

I feel ya Ray.I hate to be a hyprocite myself. You just have to let folks do as they will.I know what my ass would be doing....having a damn good time on Sat. nite, then repentin' my behind off...just like most of the other Chuuuuch folk. :D
Thanks to all for your input. Ray what you say is true --- it is hypocritical of me to shy away from the things I might normally do, simply because it is a day reserved for holiness; or it is hypocritical of me to do those things and then profess piety.
I suppose that I was aware of what a bachelor party entails when i booked my ticket -- I was mostly looking forward to hanging out with my friends, but willing to go along with the strippers and alcohol if that is the custom. But the fact that it falls on this day, makes it unacceptable to me. Still, how do I resolve the issue without offending my friends and my God? If I had to make a choice between the two, the choice is obvious. I'm still hoping that things will work themselves out somehow.
This reminds me of when I was college, and my fasting period (in March, same time every year) would always fall during spring break. Needless to say, I never made it to Cancun or Miami.

I think what you should do is go for and to see your friends and the one getting married. No kind of temptation should shake your faith(trust me, you should try marriage and see what I'm talking about). Another thing you can do is let all your friends now the deal with your faith and your concerns for the night...if they are your friends they will look out. If all else fails, take a walk when things get hectic. Remember, if all of God's disciples can be tested, why not you.
Go and have a good time.....you will find your true self and be happy with him.
hey, thanks for the advice Ray, Jamie and A/D. It makes me feel good to be tested --- as if He is saying that I am worthy of a test. I have lost so many spiritual battles over the years that I had forgotten I was still fighting.
peace

I am being tested right now as we speak :( No one could imagine what I am going thru right now. I will say this: Having children are a blessing no matter how much you are not prepared for it.
Everytime I make a strive for the better something is lurking to destroy what I have maintained or to make me change back into my old self. All I will say for now is after my test I will have a test-i-mony. Just pray for perfect peace in my life because I need all the support I can get graemlins/bighug.gif

Strength to both of you.
Ruse, how about if you report back to us on your activities when you return from ATL? :D Knowing that you will have to test-i-fy when you return might be an added incentive to be good. ;)
