You muster up the courage to ask a person to dance .... everybody is looking and they say no, then you see them dancing with someone else before that song has even gone off??? I feel like going and smokin' another blunt , coming back and dancing by myself.

Why do you still ask? Just grab her hand and pull her out on the dancefloor....

I'm a gentleman, but the man is supposed to lead.If I am at a house party, sometimes you just know who to grab or jack.Ask Rickey X.
Then again,I don't ask to many strangers to dance.I dance with friends.

Most times than not I just dance... with or without a partner.. but every now and then I see someone in particular that I want to jack with. I usually don't get turned down because I just dance and I know most of the people at the party anyway. But this would be an instance where I don't know the person and just wanted to dance with them on this one particular song.

I have a really big problem with strangers walking up and touching me. Really big. mad1.gif Dancing in my general direction and smiling is a better strategy.
As a person who goes out primarily to dance, in the moments when I am not dancing I usually am not really feeling it. I might be tired or bored or not feeling the record, but whatever the reason in my case if I want to be dancing I am already dancing. It has happened that a person has asked me to dance in one of those moments, I have declined and then a favorite dance partner has appeared and gotten me moving again. Richie, I wouldn't take it personally, who knows who all of the circumstances at play? In all honesty though, most sober, clean brothers with rhythm who ask for a dance will be obliged for at least one record.
whatever happened to saying, "not this song...catch me on a better one"...or "i'll come get YOU when a good song comes on"?
y'all guys go through a lot...i try to respect guys in clubs because they could just be assholes and NOT ask you to dance at all...

It does suck to ask someone to dance and they say no. You feel like damn "I just wanna dance". There have also been a few times where a jam comes on and you're like damn I need to dance with anyone....Then you walk up to someone who's not HOTT, but decent and they say "NO" too!! That shit blows my mind. I feel like saying "I'm doing you a favor" or "I'm hooking you up"!!!

I continue to standing there; staring at their right ear for maybe 10 to 12 seconds. Focussing on the ear creates a wonderful "crazy man" look that clearly leaves most women visibly shaken. Then I shriek, "OK!", and I proceed to get my fiendish twirl on right where I'm standing; hands in the air and screaming out props to the DJ.
Once I look up again, they're usually gone....
I Kid.
No one here (in NJ/NY) asks anyone to dance. People just sort of gravitate towards each other. It's pretty cool. You can go to a club and become enveloped in your own little sphere and just work yourself silly. As girls approach you, you dance with them for a bit and then they move on.

Yo, not only does it suck to be turned down after you walked your ass over there to ask or grab her hand to dance, but it's a looooonnnnngggg way back to where you were. graemlins/rofl.gif
I just say **** it! Waive her off and dance by myself or ask her friend graemlins/acclaim.gif
The thing about house music is you don't NEED anyone to dance with, you just jack all by yourself!
This is a topic I've thought of often 'cause I tend to say "No" nine times out of ten when I'm asked to dance. Why? I'm a bit shy and sometimes dancing with a person draws more attention to me than I care to have. Also .. what if the person throws your groove off? Not that I'm the smoothest thing on the dance floor but keeping in that in mind, adding a second person's steps to follow just makes it even more awkward for me. This is not to say I don't dance with people. Infact, I dance with a lot of people. What separates the people I dance with from the people I don't is this. We're dancing together because we gravitated towards each other. Our "vibing" to the beats just meshed. There was no asking or grabbing or weird demanding of attention. As has been stated, there are so many factors affecting why a person may or not dance with you. Not all of them are meant to offend.

I agree that sometimes if I am not dancing it is because I am tired or not feeling a record and sometimes I have peeped another's dancing skills/style and figure it won't mesh with mine. Normally at a party I don't mind dancing and feeling it by a speaker or on my own little piece of wall and when someone comes up to me or usually behind me it invades my space to move and feel the music. If you want to get a dance in the best way to do it is to offer yourself for the next record when they are standing still so they will know you are interested. In this way you put the ball in their court.
