Please clarify your statement. Are you for or against development? The Wheeler Mansion is Black-owned, if that matters, and has been transformed into a top notch bed & breakfast.

Chicago, IL 60616 This is happening in most major cities since the urban sprawl has started...the majority of those that live in those homes probably can't afford to refinance to have them fixed up...lot's of politics involved

DIDN'T YOU GUYS SEE "BOYZ N DA HOOD"? IT'S CALLED GENTRIFICATION. THE BANKS BUY PROPERTY IN LOW INCOME NEIGHBORHOODS FOR DIRT CHEAP, PUT A COUPLE GRAND IN TO IT FOR REPAIRS, AND THEN TURN AROUND AND SELL IT AT ASTRONOMICAL RATES. THE MONEY THEY MAKE IS ALL PROFIT. THE FIRST SIGN OF GENTRIFICATION IS WHEN YOU SEE A BANK POP SOMEWHERE YOU KNOW A BANK SHOULDN'T BE. I.E. 63RD & KING DR. UNDER THE EL TRACKS! AND THEN IF THEY PUT ONE SECTION 8 PERSON IN THERE, THEY CAN CALL IT SUBSIDIZED HOUSING. AIN'T THAT A KICK IN THE NARDS! graemlins/soapbox.gif

Color is not a issue here, this just represent that things may be out of reach ($$$$$)that were at one time for alot of people for many years to come.
This is happening everywhere. Some people who own their homes can't afford the taxes, so they are presented with an offer that really has no options, either sell your house or let the IRS take your house. This is a sad situation for anyone to be in. This is really big in the elderly community who usually need government assistance. :(

Man, this is not news to me. Check out around the UIC campus over here on Roosevelt and Halsted. The glory days of Maxwell street are GONE, my friends.
