In 1990, This party was the joint:

Props to Linden C, Rob Acteson and Warren for helping to cultivate London house culture.

They always had very interesting guests.
Paul Oakenfold was rocking deep-ish house, Terry Hunter did his first gig outside of the USA here, as did Derrick Carter. Danny Tenaglia rocked the house with 'Love Is The Message', Roger S. named records after the club (Soundshaft), and they used to let me get down...

1993 saw our record store's 2nd birthday and Garage City threw us a birthday party:

Tickets were on sale at Vigin Megastore!

These are just some extracts from my flyer collection which I stumbled upon recently which freed some memory from their cells.

Next week: The REAL Ministry Of Sound.

Hi Jeremy: Any idea where Cleveland Anderson is nowadays? He used to bring coaches up to the All-Dayers in the North in the early 80's.

Yeah Soundshaft, happy days indeed.

I think Cleveland Anderson is still on solar as well as representing artists such as Arnold Jarvis, check out www.tomtomclub.co.uk (http://www.tomtomclub.co.uk)

Looking back at these does it ever make you wonder, where did it all go wrong?

These clubs certainly helped lay the foundations of London's house scene, but what went wrong? 15 years down the road how has London been left with virtually no real deep house and classic's scene at all? (and just to clarify I'm talking about real deep house here, just so somebody doesn't reply telling me about Faith parties and shit graemlins/nono.gif ).

Just a thought on a rather wet and windy weekend in London.

Peace.

PS
Jeremy keep posting these threads , a nice trip down memory lane.....remember Simpson's on Romford Road in Manor Park where Bobby and Steve first started out.......

Maybe it's because House was such a commercial success over here, too much of the scene became about making lots of money, very quickly. The Superstar DJ thing that ruled the roost for most of the 90s didn't help...big name DJs in the pockets of record companies that churned out crap music...No quality control. Drugs becoming more important than good music...loads of reasons.

Nice one Jeremy, I went to a couple of these parties but my friend was an a regular. Do you remember Linden and Rob had a small record shop up in Leytonstone High road as well. That was the best local shop I could of hoped for around that time.
Alot of good memories from this time !.

P.S thanks for contact help as well, should be able to work out.

Alex. ;)

I got the pleasure of hearing Terry Hunter's first UK appearance at that very night (Soundshaft) in 1990. Seems like yesterday!

Anyone got a flyer for the legendary Friday "Hypnosis" at the Dungeon Lea Bridge Rd?

The line-up I can remember is:

Rythm Doctor
Rob Acteson
Linden C
Mr C
Evil Olive

What memories!

I went past Simpson's last night & we were discussing it the other week how Bobby & Steve started their foray into dj'ing/promoting there back in 1984.

-G graemlins/bighug.gif No G, that's just my twisted humour.
It actually refers to the fact that what I am posting is not the whole story,
but just how I saw it through my eyes/ears.
There were other things going on before, during and after, though.

Mark, I don't remember Simpsons in Romford Road.
I'm only 32, and I didn't start clubbing until 1986/7 at the tender age of 15/16.
Drop some knowledge, old man.

You may be partly right, though I saw a clip of Trevor Nelson's Soul Nation on TV on Saturday night, and it was all very disturbing.

I mean, Tracey & Sharon getting down with Winston & Floyd at a Toga party, with naked men all over the place. Is that really where Soul music in the UK came from?

I'm Spasticus.
No, I'm Spasticus.

From around this time I remember Rampling's Pure & Pure Sexy Nights as well as Monday nights' Recession Session also at the Milk Bar, Menace, one off parties were still being thrown at the fitness centre and the clink, and Trade (memories of Trade were always very fuzzy and very fond). It's funny hearing mentions of Dungeons - brings back memories of other places around that time like Silver City in Wood Green and a space under a dodgy pub in Crowland Road, South Tottenham. graemlins/eusa_dance.gif
