Just when I think the duplicitousness of our Chief Executive can't become any more apparent, he manages to go and top himself. Today he wiggles his hand, and his "Howdy Doody" puppet in Iraq, Ah'med Chalabi, instigates a panic that Saddam is "alive" and putting a bounty on U.S. servicemen!
The motives of this cynical ploy are twofold: (1) It is a bare-faced attempt to quell Iraqi aspirations for freedom by intimidating them into abandoning their demands for an end to U.S. occupation, and (2) it serves as a distraction from the increasingly obvious fact that President Bush lied about the presence of "weapons of mass destruction" in Iraq.
In the short term this will pretty much guarantee that alot more Iraqi civilians will be gunned down by frightened American kids with M-16s, which could in turn result in a substantial escalation in the overall fighting, but of course that won't bother Mr. Chalabi much. He's auditioning for the lead role in "Saddam, the Sequel", and murdering Iraqis has always been the main requirement for that role.
Nor will "Dubya" lose much sleep over that tragic probability. He should nonetheless be advised that not all of us, whether American or Iraqi, are as stupid as he seems to be. Our attention is not diverted from the fact that he waged war under false pretences, and that the further he forces us down this vile road to cover his crimes the worse it's going to get.
Whatever the final outcome, G. W. Bush is sure to make his mark--as the worst President in the history of the America.
