Hay Zeus Christmas!!!!!!!!!!

The school lunch I had today consisted of Steak Nuggets, Macorini and Cheese, Peach Cobbler, and some sweet ass Lemon Aid.

This is not healthy!!!! But it's damn good!!!

I weighed myself a few days ago and I'm a few miles from 200 lbs Blvd. It's all going to my gut.

Other than constant excersize, who has some suggestions on a good low carb and low sugar diet?

Peace

Scott and White Diet (This is given to patients to lose weight before heart surgery. Eat this way for 11 days, then get off it for 2 days. You will not lose any weight the first 6 days, but on the 7th you will lose 5 lbs. I did this, and it works, really !!! You will be hungry at first, but the idea is to get your stomach smaller. Once you get to that point you will get full on less food.

Breakfast:
Eggs (2 eggs any style)
Bacon (2 strips of bacon)
Grapefruit Juice

Lunch:
Salad (any style)
Grapefruit Juice

Dinner:
Meat (any meat)
Veggies (any except celery or white onions)
Grapefruit Juice

(With this plan it's the combination of foods that burns the fat. So, the more you eat the more you lose)

Don't eat:
Celery
Coffee (limit to one cup at a day)
Bread

Michael J .. any portion sizes come with that. For some people 'eggs' could mean any number from 2-4 or higher.

Grapefruit is one of the most important ingredients so don't leave that out.

Yeah, start fresh !!! Grapefruit has citric acid that helps burn the fat. Try it and you will see.
Be sure to get the 100 % grapefruit, some have 60% juice, 40 % crap. (read the label).

When I was in school and stocking groceries at night a few years back, I used to drink Grape Fruit Juice, Orange Juice, or Cranberry Juice during my shift. The Citric acid in the orange and grapefruit juices seemed to have bloated my stomach, so I stuck with cranberry juice (moderate consumptions, for it flared up my kidneys if I drank to much).

Any suggestions why this happened?

I got your PM, yeah I need to stay away from Pasta. I love Italian dishes (and so do the females :D ). Ohhh the sacrifices one has to make.

This is definately interesting and I just have to put my mind to it. This also means no more Emeril Live, that cutie on "40 Dollars a day", and the big husky dude that cooks nothing but Italian Cuisine.

Martin Yan, where you at?

Peace hey! you should pick up a copy of harvey diamonds "fit for life", pretty interesting philosophy on proper food combining and it works pretty well too. its more of a philosophy of lifetime eating, as opposed to a diet.

the gist of it is basically:
-eat fruits for breakfast (no carbs)
-never eat starch and protein at the same meal
-never mix proteins (ie chicken and beef) in the same meal
-get a juicer and juice fruits and vegs
-try to eat as much fresh and raw fruits and vegs as possible
-if you have a fruit for a snack, wait at least 1/2 hr before eating anything else.
-dont eat past 9pm

personally, i like to whip up a colossal salad every other day and then instead of snacking on crap, i eat as much salad as i want throughout the day... salads can be fun too!

if you're a coffee drinker then try switching over to herbal non-caffenated teas.

and if you *really* want to go all out, you can go down to the local chinese grocery and pick up some slimming tea.. but watch out for the shits for the first couple of days!

Are you a diabetic? i am and I stay away from white bread, white rice, and white potatoes. Stay away from cheese and pasta. Check with your local hospitals; they may have diabetes awareness classes as I have in my area. They teach you everything from reading food labels to assistance with making up shopping lists for meal planning.

They teach you everything from reading food labels to assistance with making up shopping lists for meal planning. Exercise is essential. Buy some light hand weights and walk! You'll build stamina and lose weight. You'll be surprised how fast your speed will increase. This helps your performance under the covers and on the dance floor!

If you are diabetic you should talk to a doctor.

Otherwise just try to slowly change your life style. Never go on these crash or gimmicky diets. The truth is eating right and excercise are the only way to do it. I'm learning right now. I def had to change my eating habits. Now started eating fat free yougurt with nuts and an apple for breakfast usually. Switch to Soy milk. It actually tastes better than milk. Try eating more seafood for dinner. Eat veggies. Eat fruits. Stay away from junk food. You know, the basics...

I allow myself to **** up on the weekend, I figure I earned it from eating right all week.

No salty foods and sweets on an empty stomach if not at all.Plenty of sleep 7-8 hours.Drink Green tea does wonders.Good luck.

groove victim,

you've raised one of my favorite topics, though i'm a bit late in picking up the thread. i'm a food scientist and i work for the food and nutrition board (of the national academy of sciences). my favorite subject is health and wellness through lifestyle and diet.

before you go any further, please evaluate your motivations and your own health status. when making choices about diet, know that these choices impact your life each day; therefore, you must concider YOUR OWN special condition. no one type of food is all bad. everything can be bad for you in excess. moderation is key. here are some things to think about when choosing foods.

</font> unnecessary non-discriminating demonization of carbohydrates: carbohydrates come in several forms such as simple sugars (as in sugary snacks and pop), starch (as in white potatoes and white bread), complex carbohydrates or fiber (as in celery and whole grain breads), and gums (as in oatmeal or as used as stablizers in processed foods). choose foods higher in fiber, they will help you to feel more full for longer. fiber also assists in helping your body absorb nutrients and rid yourself of waste. choose vegetables and fruits as often as possible for thier high nutrient content.</font>
</font> protein pros and cons: protein is good for boosting energy and enhancing satiety (feeling of fullness after eating). protein from animal sources is generally associated with saturated fat. high saturated fat intake has been associated with a myriad of health issues including heart disease, cardiovascular disease, and cancer. if you choose to eat meat, avoid ground meat, sausages, and bacon because they tend to contain higher fat content (see calorie section below). choose leaner, whole cuts of meat, you'll enjoy the nutrients meats provides with out as much fat. </font>
</font> the source of calories is important: no matter what you choose to eat, if you eat more calories than you burn in a day, you will gain weight. NO MATTER WHAT THE SOURCE, ALL EXCESS CALORIES ARE STORED AS FAT. so, if you eat 2000 calories in healthy foods, but you only burn 1500 calories that day, you'll gain weight. if you eat 1000 calories in unhealthy foods and you burn 1500, you'll loose weight. although i'm not recommending either of these strategies, i am attempting to illustrate the point that you must pay attention to how much you eat. choose foods that will provide the nutrients your body needs as well as variety you can stick with. </font>
</font> the bottom line: weight is less important than optimizing your health. you could be slim but still suffering from serious health issues. incorporate exercise into your life (note - you can burn more calories with greater muscle mass). make gradual changes you can actually stick with because you like them. educate yourself on YOUR own specific health concerns. choose a healthy lifestyle that you can stick with for the quality of life you deserve. </font>
health and strength.

manifest peace. Well dang burnit Lola, what took you so long!! I thought you would jump right into this thread earlier!!

My questions in regards to food and health are a result of a self evaluation that I made for myself at the beginning of the year. My financial responsibilities, my emotional state, health issues and why I've gained so much weight within the last two and a half years, and my lifestyle.

I've chilled out with many negative thoughts that I would have throughout the day, for there is always a brighter day to come. I don't complain and bicker as much as I used to, especially on these message boards. I've cut down on my spending habits and have been learning to be more patient and conservative with the money I retain after I take care of my financial responsibilities. After view my credit report a few weeks ago, reality kicked in with the quickness. Now with all of those aspects of my life now in the process of becoming improved, I believe that this will result in making healthier decisions in terms of both my mental and physical health. One thing that I lacked as a young adult is discipline, and it shows up from time to time. I also believe this may be due to the fact that I'm the only child in my family who never joined the military (my father and two brothers, one in Northern Kuwait as we speak, all joined the military), so that lack of discipline taught in the military I never experienced.

Some how all of these aspects of my life affect eachother in some way or another and I hope to soon be a better person as a whole for myself, my son and my family.

Thanks for the informatioon guys!!

Peace

hey groove,

sorry it took me so long (i didn't see it yesterday afternoon, i was away from my computer... where are my priorities!?!?!?!? :D )

anyway, it looks like you have done your homework and you're on the right track. watch out for people trying to sell fad diets and quick-answer products. choose a holistic approach; an integrated approach that addresses and supports all aspects of your wellness. avoid beating yourself up over periodic self-indulgence. remember, every moment is new and you can always make another choice.

keep up the good work.

after living in 3 different countries and working in way too many restaurants i've realized that the healthier the food is the better it tastes. way to many americans are brainfed to crave sugar, grease, and the overprocessed which really have nothing to do with real taste, crap food is a major commodity that the food and drug companies have everyone fatally hooked on... it's really good business though... flood the market with crap food, people become unhealthy, then prescribe drugs to 'counter'act all of its symptoms including diabetes. now that's fascism in high form
