I never bought so many compilations.
Azuli's Choice by Knuckles, Carter and Danny or Defected and Kenny Dope's In The House or Body & Soul by Wave or DJ Kicks or the whole disco things...superb!?!

What's your fav?
Do you think compilations suck or is it a perfect thing to get more people listen to "good" music?

At the moment I'll prefere Kenny's pick.
I searched for Buddy X for 2 years...thank you!

I've been digging the "Jazz Bizniz" comps.

I think they are good and bad

I always prefer to have the single so you can get the acapella or a dub mix and so on... (plus there is something to be said about actually taking the time to track down an original copy)

I have bought a bunch of comps though over the years.

Some of the comps that Compost put out were pretty sick.

Also some of the Soul Jazz comps.

Azuli's "Choices" are also among my favorites. As wel las some of the Larry Levan and Strut, BBE compilations. Also Pressure Sounds and Blood & Fire are also welcome for their heavy dose of vintage Regage and Dancehall.
I think compilations are great for discovering a lot of music you want afterwards as a 12-inch. Great for spending even more money on music.
;)

Peace.

and if we're not just restricting to HOUSE, then hands-down it's:

Super 70's (Time Life) ... yeah yeah, the infomercial beat on my brain, night after night - I just had to order - but it was a great investment

I find compilations serve two purposes for me: they're good to listen to in the background at work; and often they highlight tracks I'd missed/passed up first time around.

Current favourites:

Chicken Lips 'DJ Kicks', which includes a great Herbert track with Karin Krog, which I'd dismissed when I heard it previously;

Serie Noire volume 1; great Italo/New Beat/Balearic selection.

Osunlade 'Offerings' - very similar selection to the mix posted on the main page.

But...next week it'll probably be a totally different selection! (My all-time pick is the 'Super Rare Disco' CD on Robbins. Not a duff track on there. graemlins/thumbsup.gif )

The downside is that a lot of comps seem to cover very similar ground, with endles duplication of tracks - look at that Secret History LP on Regal - 'Problemes D'Amour', 'Secret Life, 'Hypnotic Tango', 'Frequency 7'...all out recently elsewhere.

The new Southport Weekender comp has been playing in my car and is very good - especially the Joey Negro and Giles Peterson selections.

For old stuff BBE, Strut, Harmless, Soul Jazz put out some interesting albums. I also like the Disco Strut series

Don't forget David mancuso's Loft compillations! My other personal favourite is the first Disco (not Disco) compilation on Strut. graemlins/respekt.gif
Such a shame that Strut and Nuphonic are no more :(

I don't know too many compilations that encapsulate the feeling of underground house in 60-some minutes. That Love Root II track "Funky emotions".... man! Back when DT was producing the good stuff.

Bobbi and steve, 'stop look and listen' compilation on BBE is one of my favourites. U can get the BBE compilations dirt cheap of their website, well worth a look.
