I'm caught in the middle with this subject. You have cats out there who will go the the middle of the earth and pay some serious cash for a record they are looking for. Then you have cats who are just satisfied with a bootleg or a reissued copy of a song or album.
I think that tracks and albums that are reissued have hurt the art of DJing. Everyone plays the same 16 records in their mixes, and they get lost in the midst. Then you have the cats who play alot of rare gems and they answer that obvious question by saying, "Seek and you shall find".
A record such as "Take me to the Mardi Gras", according to Grand Master Flash, nooooooooooooooooooooo one was playing that cut except for him. See where I'm getting at?
I have alot of respect for DJs and music lovers who do their homework. Go to the mom and pop stores in the alleys and find stuff that's not considered "House" by the status quo.
I recall a few years back when Timmy Richardson broke out "Umi says" by Mos Def at 2is and everyone and their grandmother went out to buy the album. That's how it should be done. Let the sheep follow.

Not everyone's buying records to play them in clubs. Someone going through the trouble of rescuing a worthy artist from obscurity is a beautiful thing.

I'm all for reissues.
While I respect collectors, I found myself running into cats who would "hoard" their stuff. Maybe if they were playing it out, that would be different. Why not let everyone hear it?
For a while my motto was: "PLAY records, collect STAMPS."
I gotta agree with you, blaze your own artistic take on this music.....(but that's like telling a follower to be a leader hunh..... smile.gif ...)
They should re-release all music on Cd, but I am being subjective at this point....(personally they can start with Lars and that Needs/PDO material, all GU's shit on CD, then I can go broke happy).
I'd be happy to send ya something Groove which will attest to the fact.....(mind you I have a lot of learning to do though).

If the re-issue is quality, I can't see how it hurts.
Paying large amounts for records doesn't indicate a special passion. It surely doesn't make the recording sound better.

Pick 5 Chicago deep dj's and see how many of thier songs overlap. Not too many.
What gets lost in the midst?
I was listening to an interview with Nicky Siano and he said that "back in the day" alot of the dj's programmed the same music. Nicky didn't make it sound like a bad thing.

You could be saying two things: 1. Everybody wants the record because Flash played it, or 2. It's a really good song and it's worth owning.

True. But what does this have to do with re-issues? :D

Now everybody and their grandmother will use "Umi Says" in their mix. Kind of right back where you started with the dreaded "16"
