i received this in an e-mail today:

P Diddy - Deep Dish Track Makes Waves - Puff Daddy visits Tenaglia at Space.
Last summer after visiting Ibiza Spain P.Diddy discovered dance music and has been on
a quest to develop an album project with Felix The House Cat and Deep Dish. This past week
the Puffed one walked into Space in Miami defying all normal sleeping patterns during the Winter
Music Conference to visit and see Danny Tenaglia a DJ spin for 7,000 fans, something you never see
in the hip hop industry. He handed DT a track called "Lets Get ILL by Deep Dish Vs P Diddy.
Tenaglia turned handed him the head phones and said , hey you play it. Puff did....
and now the word is out. The rumors are final confirmed that P'Diddy if successful will launch
BAD BOY DANCE MUSIC this year. Something that will no doubt spark interest one again in the genre.
Which is just what we need.

And

Is this the underground going overground?

Hmmm ...

P-doody is barely relevant in the hip-hop industry. Who cares if he starts a dance label.
All he'll do is make 'dance' music that's as piss poor as his hip-pop.

I heard the rumors of this in Miami.I wish he would have crashed the Maw party instead of DT.Anyways, hell it may give some producers a chance to get noticed. There will always be an underground and an overground to all types of music.

If your favorite producer gets signed to his label...don't hate....."It's all about the paper baby!!!"

ok, guys, for all y'all who want this shit above ground, get on board and ride the wave off into the sunset.....I'll be the one over here, still doing the underground parties when you get back from your 5 year run....and yes, I'll still let you in the party.

Also, except for Felix, he's attaching himself to very 'progressive' elements. That's how I see it.

I heard a rumor that P showed up at the door for the deep dish party and was dissed!! Now that's some funny-ass sh@t.

This is my message to P:

Stay away from my scene!! Have fun with that commercial BS!! Have fun wuth Danny & Deep Dish. I never liked 'em. Well, I used to like Danny until he started playing hard commerical sh@t.

well, if he puts out good music, I'll give him props. I heard his new track, and it's commercial, but it's not half as bad as some of the shyte out there now.

it probably goes without saying, but remember that people who want the LOOT are looking for the "NEXT BIG THING" ... if he thinks dance music is the next big thing, then maybe we have some future successes ahead of us in this game after all.

Or, maybe he'll suck our business dry of creativity, individuality and soul like he did with hip hop, and take the money and run. I know Bert Reid of Crown Heights Affair sure wasn't bitching when Faith won a Grammy for "All Night Long" (which sampled "I Hear Music In The Streets") - if he samples "Days Like This" and Shawn Escoffrey & Spinna get paid for it, is it a bad thing?

As long as there's a mainstream, there will be an underground.

Like toomuchtv said earlier, Puffy is not as relevant in the rap game as he once was. He needs a new edge right now. And he only has $10 million to work, which sounds like a lot, but Puff is used to working with a lot more money for a label. It might be a good thing. I'd rather he work with MAW or BLAZE though.

Oh yeah. I read about his most recent deal and while it's not quite peanuts, it's nowhere near what he used to command.

His last deal was $30 million over 3 years, but this time he only got $10 mil for 3 years. Even though he's still able to make deals in the millions, that's a pretty good pay cut.

To DJ JM3, very true. We'll just have to wait and see what he comes up with...

I think it's a good thing. Bottom line, those who have the opportunity to experience it and give our music a chance can't turn away. I imagine that's what happened to him. Hopefully he will dig deeper and fully come on board.

1) What will be your wallet verses that other Mr."Five Year" person.

2) The amount of Production and Remix work that underground party gets you. Before DURNING and AFTER the "so called" 5 year run the other person gets.

3) Whats underground here is mainstream over seas....so is there REALLY a underground?

Pdiddy the creator of the remix. aint that some sh*t. True house music will never go mainstream. If diddy's dance project works, hey good for him. Smart man, find a niche in the market and cash in. Like all that cheesy euro crap that is so saturated in the music scene in europe, maybe, diddy can bring "mainstream dance" music to another level instead the ever so popular hip hop genre.

PS- Purtell, good looking out for philly brining in marques wyatt-- Hope u the same kat that is in philly- lol

Never been a big Puff fan, but I will add this. When rap was going south with almost nothing but gang-bangin' lyrics, and when it was far from having any female appeal, Puff brought back the r&b elements (albeit through much sampling) and merged the two generes like no one before him. This gave it more across-the-board appeal. Guys and girls were lovin' it for a while, and the formula still works today (except for you strictly house heads :D ). However, it shouldn't be overlooked that he partly forged the whole bling-bling-ness in rap and r&b. That aside, however, let's not forget those who continue to produce real house music and are struggling just to push 2 - 4,000 copies world-wide, which by today's standards is a considered the norm for some modicum of success. If somebody like Puff wants to give a shot at promoting this music out of the doldrums it's presently in (not artistically, that is but financially), let somebody like him with connections, star power, and MONEY help out. We as jocks and consumers like what we like and we don't want it tampered with artistically. But think about those who are giving more than their all, with little to no financial support to produce the music we love. Some of them might as well give the music away because the return can be extremely minimal. Let's let them make a little change for a minute if that is to be the case. And what's wrong with our music making it above ground a little. There will always be true underground, no matter how much, if any makes it to the mainstream. We have seen this before, there is plenty of evidence from the jazz age, to disco, to the Garage era and into the 90's where what flourished underground rose above ground and impacted its environment. Think about any plant you see growing from the Earth - it is underground where the seed is nourished and where the roots are bound, and conversely, it is above ground where it is allowed to grow and have its beauty shown to the world.

Now, that's not to say that Puff's motives may be purely financial, and who knows if his being in control may mean that he'll want some artists, producers to compromise their artistic freedom. Hey, it's a business. But hopefully, someone like him can finally give the music we love a shot and work to give it some exposure, if for no other reason but the sake of its very survival. There's some pretty good stuff out right now - why diss a helping hand.

And Ray, I'll still come to your parties :D

While I know puffy has been really successful commerically, releasing the sh*t he has released to date, i still remember him from the junior mafia days. i still think he's a good producer whether or not you all want to admit it.

having said that, if his name brings more hype to this genre, I'm hoping the trickle down effect results in recognition for our producers and that they get paid.

I like the making the band show kinda. But they should have kept that guy singer Wayne (or was it walter?) in the group.
