I listen to other people's mixes:
- to hear what other people are playing
- to find out what's hot
- tired of listening to my self
- nice archive of "Legends" mixes
- G-Man pays me well to promote his site ;)
I listen to web mixes to hear how other DJs put it down.

I listen for many reasons. I listen for my love of house music. I listen because it helps me through my days at work. I get exposed to new tunes and dj's I may have never heard otherwise. It's an opportunity for me to hear songs that may be old or new that I may have missed or slept on. And also, I get to hear different styles of djing.

I encourage everyone to contribute to this discussion (Djs, dancers, Promoters, producers, party goers, Blah blah blah). My reasons:
1. To hear my favorite dj's
2. To hear new music (I have always loved the new stuff, you don't have to play classics for me)
3. To check out dj's I have never heard before or might not get to hear ever.
4. Some dj's I can only hear on the internet because they don't have a regular spot to play in.
I have noticed lately, that a lot headz and dj's in paticular, look down on the "internet" dj's. why is that? can anybody tell me why? Its like there's some snobbery going on like "Oh he's just an "internet" dj". What is that about? Just like some people hate the fact that people breakdown house music into categories (deep, soulful, whatever, I personally disagree all house aint the same and I dont want to hear some dj playing kim english @ 160 bpm)I hate the phrase "internet dj" and the way it seems to be used put down any dj who isn't playing in club or doesnt have his own radio.
Keith, I hope I didnt mess up your thread with my ranting/venting, Im having a bad day over here. Let me throw DaveR's mix #16, that' cheer me right up graemlins/thumbsup.gif
Peace

Because I don't have the option to enjoy them on a portable player.

Because it makes me haaaaappy.
I listen to peep out tunes, hear cats play, and just hear diffeerent regional and international styles and flavors.
Suzanne, cats who trip on jocks who put their product out in the net are just shook and have to find a reason to talk shit.
On the other hand I can understand because some cats are overstaurating the net with wackness, just to get their name out there. It's my personal taste on that, but I have heard some shit that should ot be out to the public.
To each his own....I'm adding to the madness,I'm sending out a lot of unheard mixes from the vaults.Who cares who likes me or not...dj's rarely hire other dj's.

I like listening to mixes on the web. I stated in the original thread my reasons.
G-man I sure do know you have lots of talet on the main page. Not denying that at all.. You have show me that consistantly since I became a member.
The reason I made this thread was to find out a good majority of reasons why we listen to mixes on the web becuase, it seems as if play lists are some how an issue.
Even though all the people on this board did not reply to this thread (yet) so far no one has mentioned they listen cause they want or need a play list.
To me the replys are based on wanting hear good music and different styles of djs period!
We will see if this is the case if people are not scared to contribute their thoughts to this thread.
Im listen to DJ karizma's b mix. He plays good and thats all I need to know. Yeah maybe there is something he is playing that I may want but, you know what If I don't get in the record store I just wont have it!
I will just enjoy listening to it on the net.
Look at me Im dancing play listless http://deephousepage.com/smilies/banana.gif!

But truth be told I'm a playlistaholic - I don't necessarily "need" a playlist to decide whether I will listen to a mix because my motto has always been "It's not just what you play, it's how you play it". Even if your playlist lists every song I luv at the moment, If you are trainwrecking all over the place, your mix will
get scrapped. http://www.trainweb.org/brettrw/csx/glostwreck.jpg
I like playlists as a reference and i think they can educate listeners. I think that one of the most annoying things a dj or record store owner probably has to deal with is some fool trying to hum or sing some song they heard in a mix. Just my http://deephousepage.com/smilies/twocents.gif

various reasons:
1. for enjoyement.
2. to find 'new' records, be it 30 years old or yet unreleased.
3. to learn a thing or two from other people way of programming, mixing, etc.
playlists...
i'll be honest, if i see a playlist, and either i know 90% of the songs on the mix, or i see a lot of unfamiliar titles and one or two titles of records that i don't particularly like, i probably will spend time on listening to another mix.
on the other hand i've found out that if a playlist isn't added out front, i'll enjoy listening to it for just what it is, a mix!whereas when it's accompanied by a tracklist, it's just a compilation of tracks.
i feel there's a good thing about playlists aswell though, it gives me an opportunity to spend my listening/searching time much more efficiently. hence i can cover a much wider spectrum of musical styles within a short period of time. the variety and depth of my collection can only benefit from that imho.

Simply put Internet Dj's provide a service for the internet comunity.
I listen to internet mix shows because its really part of the future of dance music. its another avenue to listen to Jocks you may never hear live, also its a good way to listen to new or obscure music. If a mix set is super DOPE I record it on cd so i can jam it in my ride graemlins/snoopy.gif
Anyone that looks down on a Internet Dj is probably not real secure with the way they play and is probably not to kool with new technology and the way things are done now. The more avenues we have to get this music out the better.
R-R
To hear other people playing music that I like.
