Hi!
My son(6) would like to visit Washington DC to see the sights(monuments, etc) and we would like to indulge him. Any suggestion on hotels near the the bus stop(1005 1st St Ne). I have already looked it up on the net ,but like most I would like to go based on expirience or word of mouth.
peace,
gojay

really depends on your budget, hotels near the bus station, especially on New York Ave are probably cheapest and i have had friends stay there, i have never stayed there myself.
hi Gojay
i'm not sure whether you'd want 2 stay near the bus station --- it would not necessarily make the sightseeing areas of DC more accessible; plus i'm not sure of the hotels around there. if u are looking to save $, try looking in Rosslyn (just across the river in VA) tho i myself prefer the GWU/Foggy Bottom area (quite a few hotels around) around this time of year. PM me if u got any questions.
peace
gojay,
does the hotel have to be next to the bus station? if not, there is a marriott next to one of the metro stations(metro center) but i don't know if you are trying to spend that much.
you were planning on utilizing the metro to check out all the sites, right? if not, i HIGHLY recommend it. you could do your site seeing all day and then take the train back to the metro center and just take the escalator and you're at the hotel and can relax for what i'm sure will be a very tiring day.
here is the system map so maybe you can familiarize yourself it: Metro Map (http://www.wmata.com/metrorail/systemmap.cfm).

GoJay,
Check your pm's...
Also, for tourist stuff, the best deal in the city is TourMobile ( www.tourmobile.com (http://www.tourmobile.com) ).
You pay one small fee and the tram system takes you around to all of the major tourist attractions including the Smithsonian Museums, the Monuments, Vietnam & Korea Memorials, Arlington National Cemetary etc etc. You get on the tram, get off at whatever stop you want (you don't HAVE to get off anywhere if you don't want) and the tram comes around every 10-15 minutes to pick you up, so if you want to spend 15 mins @ the Vietnam Memorial and then 4 hours at the Smithsonian, it doesn't matter. The tram comes around every 15 minutes.
The cool thing about the tram is that it's outdoors so you get to see the city a little more up close and personal.
Peace

What's your price range? Do you have to be near the bus or is it also fine to be near the Metro (DC's subway). I think you'd rather do the Metro.
I'm not sure about hotels exactly near that address, but here are some hotel suggestions...
Henley Park Hotel
926 MASSACHUSETTS AVE NW
Washington, DC 20001
Rates are usually around $110 per night. It's a very nice hotel about 2 blocks from the Convention Center metro stop on the green and yellow lines. I've stayed there before moving to DC. I have heard complaints that the front desk staff are not polite. I'm surprised but that is possible.
Morrison Clark Historic Inn
1015 L STREET NORTHWEST
Washington, DC 20001
It's almost across from the Henley Park. Beautiful building. I've known a couple of people to stay there who recommended it highly. Room rates are around $120.
Wyndam Hotel
1400 M STREET N W
Washington, DC 20005
Not as easily accessible to the Metro but I've been there for a couple of events and it's a nice place. $129 or so.
Marriott Courtyard Convention Center
900 F STREET NW
Washington, DC 20004
Another nice spot. It's about 1 block from the metro (MCI Center metro - Red line). About $125 per night.
Feel free to pm me.
What they said. smile.gif Really, the only places that are worth visiting near the bus stop are Union Station and the Capitol (which is a little bit of walk). All the other traditional "touristy" stuff is about 15 to 20 blocks across town from Union Station (e.g. White House, Washington, Monument, Holocaust Museum, etc.).

One more...
Holiday Inn
415 New Jersey Avenue, NW
WASHINGTON, DC 20001
I mention it because it isn't too far from the bus station. The bus station is a couple of blocks north of Union Station. This holiday inn is about 3 blocks south west of Union station (red line on the Metro). It supposedly went through a renovation and gets rated decently for a tourist class hotel. About $119.
(No...I don't work for hotels...just had lots of family come and stay) :D

GojaY Cool! However, don't sleep on the rest of the parties in DC. There's some nice stuff going on around town these days.

No sleeping here Doug!
But I don't think I'll be in town long enough(playing tourist and all) to visit the parties you mentioned(although I would love to). But since I have always wanted to go to Red,I would at least have time to go check you.If I could have schedualed more vacation time, I would have hit all the parties. Although I do want to see JL go Claussell @ Open Door(for comic relief)!
peace,
Gojay
