or top five if you can't handle the pressure
or 1 per "era" if you can't handle that pressure (as released, not as in era mix represents).
any genre. just has to be a phat ****ing mix
have at it. and in no particular order. you can include reasons
1. doc martin - imperial dub volume 2 : from starting w/ straight african drums and into the 1st 7 tracks (easily) just some of the best. i've used this cd to make many people on their path to househeadom.
2. dj garth - US Underground - lost my copy. just a sick mix. no one ever has it.
3. nick warren - global underground 8?: brazil - it's not trance (all his other GU's are and were dissapointing), but if they are based on a night i don't know what he did to brazil that night...but it was SICK. the cd just builds really really damn well. and it mixes this one song in for like 4 records straight...pre-protools bullshit. gave it away to someone who needed it. i miss it.
4. mark farina - united dj's of america - i've seen this mix make people cry. it's that good.
5. nick warren - back to mine 1 - most amazing downtempo cd. maybe it's b/c it's many many many morning drives back to school from going out...but it's just awesome.
lol. no deeeeeeeeeeeeeephouse in the lot.
I like the mixes from here. ;)

oh, and the X-Mix series
I like some of the ones mentioned but for me it has to be David Mancuso presents the Loft, the 1st one especially CD 2(late).
I never get sick of listening to it because it flows so nicely.

some of my absolute faves are (in no particular order)
...some of these might shock the unsuspecting few...
( by the way, these are all mix TAPES listed below)
- Dj Rush: untitled, 120 minute mix tape my homie from High School had. Features one of the most banging edit of Thanks For The Memories ever made. 1994
- Mark Farina: Beyond Bliznobia. This is still my fave of all the Mark Farina mixes. nice slow, groovin underground house. 1992
- Miles Maeda: Done & Done. Miles is goes hella deep on this one. There is still mad cuts on here that i am looking for. 1995
- Miles Maeda: Bliss. For obvious reasons. PROPHECY of the fusion between techno and house. 1992
- Daryl Cura: A New Beginning. sloooow, sedated, deepness from one of my closest friends. 1996
- Traxx: Happy Birthday Candice. Deeeeeep, slow, BeatDown style house similar to Theo Parrish, MoodyMan, Harvey etc... Given to my ex for her birthday, i managed to make a copy before we broke up. ;)
(i have of only 2 existing copies) 1998
- Derrick Carter: Juxtoposition. rough ass dub house, fused with sensuous vocal house. Perfection. 1992
- Gene Farris: Erotic World. Gene mixing Jack Trax, Disco, Techno and everything else inbetween. 1994
- James Johnson: Overdose. One of my favorite tapes from one of my favorite techno deejays of all time.
- Lego: Block 3. beating from beginning to end. 1993

i would be interested in those maeda tapes. i saw him on sf sunset boat party about two years ago and was ill, ill, ill. you got those on cd or just tape? i recommend burning them to cd. if you want to mail them out i could do that for you. let me know. peace!
OMG!!! I LOVE threads like this!! :D I own tons of commercial mixes! Damn near impossible to say which ones are the five best... Off the top of my head:
Latitude 40 (Journeys By DJ) ~ Nicolas Matar
Ley Lines (Journeys By DJ) ~ Tim Fielding
After Hours (Journeys By DJ) ~ Jay Chappelle
Mutant Disco ~ ?
Mix The Vibe ~ Tony Humphries
United DJs of America Vol. 18 ~ Tony Humphries
A Night At The Playboy Mansion ~ Dimitri from Paris
House Volumes 1-6 ~ Terry Hunter, Hippie Torales, Tommy Musto, 95 North, etc...
Lazy Dog, Vols. 1&2 ~ Ben Watt & Jay Hannan
DJs Take Control, Vol. 1 ~ Tony Humphries
DJs Take Control, Vol. 3 ~ Deep Dish
United DJs of America Vol. 15 ~ David Alvarado
Soundscapes (Live from London) ~ David Alvarado
All of these mixes are truly beautiful and well put together... But I'm only scratching the surface, I probably could name 100-200 mixes that are truly breathtaking in that the deejay's artistic interweaving of gorgeous songs totally overwhelms the senses...
Peace,
HML

A sure shot killer!!!!
For me its gotta be Coldcut - Journeys By Dj.
Ahead of its time then and still is now.
I also absolutley love the Carl Craig Ess mix from '96. don't know if that qualifies as its actually a radio mix, but i do have it on cd now. the mixing isn't brilliant but the tune selection and vibe of the whole mix is amazing.
The vibe these mixes create are amazing, as opposed to just being one tune after the other.

1993 geez i wish i could hear some of those...

There was this series called "All DJ's have a 12""
put out by unidisc, which they had at the bottom of the Bargain or "steal me" bin at a cd store in Ljubljana. MY first encounter with the mixed disco sound, lots of 80's R n B, much respect.
But the award goes to Larry Live at the Garage. What a disc! Only the creme de la DHP creme can match it!
much respect

Wave music compilations are nice!
Body and Soul.
And there was a real good Lil' Louie Vega mix for ministry of sound, I can't really remember!
I think he mixed it with Harry Romero!?

Goes to show how good they all are! (esp for me the Essential mix!) That's still a relative observation which relates to personal taste.
I'm not too crazy about "Mix the vibe" as a whole, go ahead and flame me. :D Again, personal taste.
Personal faves:
Derrick May - Mayday mix
Terrence Parker - TP mix vol. 15(not really official but nevertheless BRILLIANT!)
Derrick Carter - Cosmic Disco
Laurent Garnier - X-mix vol.2

This tape is from Kaos New Years Eve at The Warehouse in Leeds - if you need a copy of this tape let me know, I have one that's taken from the master and should record well ;) PM me if you need... smile.gif
