After a massively successful launch @ our new Sophbeck stomping ground in July we move swiftly into our 2nd event in the confines of the clubs bass heavy basement. A room that has earned a reputation over the past few years as the only place in Leicester to stick to its original vision of underground ethnicity; this perfectly complementing City Fly’s ethos and commitment to musical integrity, forward thinking beats and bringing something cultivating and new to the city’s music scene as we host this our final event before our 6th birthday celebrations in November!
For this installment we don’t bring you one, we don’t bring you two, but we bring you three headline acts for your ear-gasmic pleasure... If you like your house music deep, funky and sometimes techy all drenched with soul and groove be sure to check this out!
The Line Up –
BLEEP DISTRICT (AMENTI, WINDING ROAD, LOST MY DOG) – NOTTINGHAM
...
Who the hell are Bleep District I hear you ask? They are Matt Powell a founding DJ of the legendary Quadrant sound system and the inappropriately nicknamed Matt Rhythm who rumour has it spends his spare time pressing random buttons as one half of deep house anti-heroes Rhythm Plate. Coming straight out of leftfield, Bleep District have exploded onto the deep house scene like a musical gas leak. Their quirky, chunky, dance floor orientated beats causing serious damage on dance floors and working men’s clubs around the country.
BEN PARKINSON (BOE RECORINGS) – LONDON
...
Owner and A & R manager of boe recordings, a young label based in the heart of London dedicated to releasing original house music from artists who have their own unique sound. Just one look at the boe roster shows what the label is about, Burnski, KiNK, Consistent, David Labeij, Kris Wadsworth and Ladzinski. Boe has gained many fans on the house circuit and the releases have found the record boxes of DJs such as Steve Bug, Agnes, Brothers Vibe, Serafin, Luke Solomon, Jeff Samuel, Harri, Brendon Moeller & Manuel Tur.
Ben has been DJing and collecting records for over 12 years and host the boe recordings parties at Roadtrip, London.
ASTRAL T (KOLOUR, REPLAY) [LIVE PA] – LEICESTER
...
Hailing from the cultural backwater of deepest Northamptonshire, Astral T’s childhood was no less than colourful. Starting innocently enough with a singing role in the Village Church Choir, this Sunday-service chore laid the foundation for her later passion in singing and song-writing.
Now Midlands-based, in just 3 years she has collaborated with a range of esteemed producers both local and international. In 2007 her collaboration with the dynamic deep house duo Rhythm Plate saw the release of ‘Inside Me’ – A deep US garage-style number in which Astral T’s infectious vocal compliments the lush key and warm bassline perfectly – on the ‘Robbin’ Hudd’ EP on Hudd Traxx Records. Garnering acclaim and charted by many DJs in House circles, the track was an instant success and was snapped up for several commercially released mix compilations by many a House veteran including Johnny Fiasco’s ‘Nectar Vol. 2’ and Harley & Muscle’s ‘Play Deep House 5th Chapter’.
Since ‘Inside Me’ she has gone on to collaborate with a range or producers – including Hudd Traxx’s Eddie Leader (with the track ‘Innersphere’ on the ‘That Was Easy’ EP on Hudd Traxx), Nottingham’s Kinky Movement (‘Don’t You Wish’ on Replay Recordings) and Argentina’s Julian Sanza. There have been a plethora of remixes too, courtesy of Julian Sanza, Inland Knights, Pete Dafeet and Hoodfellas. On all her collaborations it’s the intoxicating mix of simple hooks combining with philosophical insights that fit effortlessly into the deeper shades of house…
