QnA: June Joseph - NYC - DJ; Journalist

Today, BounceFM.Com shines its spotlight on June Joseph: DJ, Journalist, quality music connoisseur. Here's some of what she had to say:

"I hope more DJs strive to take me and my fellow dancers on madcap journeys through sound. There are those who do: Theo Parrish, Gilles, Tenaglia, Krivit, Dego, Craze and quite a few more…People don’t appreciate the art of DJing as much these days. A lot of these kids don’t give a shit about our history, they’re obsessed with the cult of the superstar DJ. They go to “see” DJs instead of “hear” them. However, it’s nice to hear some veterans and “superstars” who still feel it passionately, as well as new DJs who take the art seriously.

I also can’t be bothered with DJs who just play the hits or refuse to take chances. Even if it doesn’t, ultimately, work, try it… I like a DJ who messes with my head and makes my body hurt from dancing, but will not relent. It’s my dream to be a DJ like that!"

I often say to people that I'm going to go and see a dj, but what I MEAN is that i am going to hear a dj.

Or people talking about dancing D.J's, check the floor if you like dancing. it isn't a visual spectator sport, I feel some people may act the part in the box - "wooooh ! look at me aren't the records I am playing grrreat woooh !." I couldn't give a flying **** what they are doing physically, they could be doing headstands while puppeteerign a sacha doll with their left foot, what comes out the speakers is what matters, F U C K "the energy from the box", pretentious twoddle !

Although If the DJ is having a good time great, but if your forcing it then you just look cuntish

Peace

i *HATE* it when the crowd is standing there tapping their feet, with a drink in their hand, looking at the DJ doing his/her thing.... they obviously don't come for the music and to dance.... it's a plague...

Bad Boy Bill is playing this Saturday at a club here in Houston. Some DJ friends HAVE TO go see him, although they are native Houstonians and don't know his history. They are there to see tricks. Me, I'm going to pass it up because tickets are too expensive and people won't dance, i bet they'll just stare at the screens because his whole booth is suppose to be full of camera's.

I get the distinction June is making.

In my own (stupid / pedantic) terms, I go to 'see' and 'hear' a DJ. after all, if I can't see a DJ, how can they see me, and therefore arrange music for me to hear? ;)

Olaf This is kind of harsh don't you think ? ... Maybe the feet tappers still love the music, but like the bar equally well (which in many cases helps the DJ stay employed).

I mean, they could be tapping their feets elsewhere, no ? smile.gif - be glad there are "all kinds" of supporters out there - those that come to hear & see the DJ ...

it might be harsh, but it's the truth imho... i mean those are the peeps standing *ON* the dancefloor..if you just want to listen to the music move away from the floor and stand against the wall or bar or something..... it's really not good for the atmosphere....

Hear first ....
However some Djs are double the pleasure as in not only can I get down to their beats, my eyes can also feast on their loveliness. Examples of such Djs will not be following this post. graemlins/rofl.gif

I go to dance!! Sometimes I hate going to see the "big name" DJ.. Cuz its a bunch of people going to see so and so.. not dancing, taking my space damnit..

But the best is when a person is out there staring at the DJ booth.... Screaming out the name of the DJ and its not even them.. graemlins/rofl.gif
