Baidsen's subject: Love, Lust and Lies. This caller with HIV calls up, admitting that she contracted HIV sleepin' with a man. She's out on the "payback", spreadin' it to cats herself:

Baidsen: (paraphrase) I understand the anger that you have towards men (though I may not agree with it), but if a person you sleep with is married, what about the hurt you may put to the woman, who in turn may get HIV from him?

Caller: I don't mean to be selfish, but that's not my concern....

All I got to say is.... graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

Mad deep!!!!

I listen to them both and all I can think is we have some really pathetic humans walking around in NYc.....also, after listening to Basden's show, I come away thinking there are some serious baggage that many women walk around with....I heard that call that Fletch mentioned, and I was scared...make you think...the caller said she is still foine and still have her looks and body, and go out to the clubs every week waiting for the dumb asses....she said she will continue to "take as many with her", because these men think because she looks they good, they don't even think that "she could be dirty"(her words)....I made the sign of the cross after hearing her....I didn't look at another woman on the way home, just wanted to call my wife and let her know I loved her....I guess she did her job.

I can see how the show can do good, as in your case. I just can't stand the sound of Mike's voice as well as the callers or most of the topics. They way they whine, complain, what have you. But you have a point. Hearing tragedy like the one today makes you realize to appreciate your life and those in your life as well as your situation. Somebody out there always has it worse than you do.

That voice of his is surely country....you know he is from Chicago..... graemlins/bolt.gif </font>I was at that first Circle of Sisters thing in NYC a few years back and he was on the panel and he was up there signafying and points at me when he starts talking about women who dis men or something to that effect, mind you I was just passing by. I kept walking and gave him the finger and one of my infamous "go screw yourself" facial expressions. Then my book club read his "Men Cry in the Dark" ode to male foulness. No comment. I've also tried to listen to his show. He's a horse's ass and likes to give license for men to do what they want and blames women for not just sucking it up and taking it. But hey he serves a purpose for somebody (kiss's ratings) cause he's still on the air.

I listen to Love, Lust & Lies almost every day and I've NEVER heard Mr Baisden advocate men doing dirt. I've also never heard him say that when a woman is being mistreated, she should just "suck it up and take it".

Because Michael Baisden approaches his topics from a male perspective (not unusual since, he is a male  ) you are implying that he is chauvinistic. Although he is strongly opinionated, much of what he says carries a lot of weight. Lotta women don't wanna hear the real truth about their situations, and are offended when they are forced to face reality.

One example in particular is when Mr Baisden said something to the effect of "most women know when their man is a dog". But, they still stay with him, sleep with him, support him, love him etc. Now, truthfully, whose fault is it that they're allowing themselves to be played? Is it the man's fault? I think not!!! A "no-good" is gonna get away with anything some hapless female allows him to! The WOMAN is the one who needs to stop allowing herself to be VICTIMIZED!

If you knew your next door neighbor was a thief, would you leave your front door unlocked and open every time you went out? And, if you did, who'd be to blame if all your stuff was gone when you came home? See my point?

Anyways, I believe Mr Baisden to be a provocative host who gives equal importance to BOTH the male and female viewpoints of his subject matter. He's unabashed and forthcoming, he doesn't pull punches... I believe the brother tells it like it is and 99% of the time he's on point. Some folks just aren't ready to face the truth and deal with reality... graemlins/jpshakehead.gif

I only wrote on the topic because it's an interesting (and scary) one. Folks who deal with "gettin' burned", and folks who "burn back".

I have not read any of his books, but the couple of times I have heard Baidsen over the radio, I did not hear much of the "ghetto element" (compared to Wendy's broadcasts). I listened to another topic of his a while back, "Being Single v. Being Married". I thought Baidsen, along with all of the callers, brought up very well-thought out points, in turn leading to a very intelligent debate.

When Baidsen asked "Nicole" (the burner w/HIV) whether she, when sleeping with men, considered the hurt she may put to the innocent wife, that didn't look like a female-bashing question. Nicole's "that dosen't concern me response" just made me go "damn"! Peace.

HML please provide examples of when Baisden takes men to task for their behavior as oppossed to constantly taking women to task for dealing with those that behave in particular ways, its a two way street.

Fletch, at no point did I say that your particular post said that Baisden bashed females in that particular instance. I am talking about the 5 or 6 times I have listened to his show in particular, and furthermore it was more to Ray and Ultra's comments than yours. Also please answer the same question I posed to HML.

An answer to your question: Based on the couple of shows I did listen to, I didn't see any license giving to men or wanting women to suck it up. Maybe I have to listen more to see what he really is. graemlins/conf44.gif

Unfortunately, I don't possess the encyclopedic recall to provide the examples you'd like to see. I'll go you one better though. Isn't it a given that certain behaviors (abusiveness, cheating, lying, stealing, having a child outside one's marriage, laziness, inability to hold a job, drug addiction, etc.) are unacceptable? So, why would ANY talk show host dedicate time to stating something so obvious? Would Mr Baisden speaking out against such behaviors really change the attitudes of the persons perpetrating these acts? So, what purpose would this serve other than appeasing women who love to hear male-bashing? graemlins/jpshakehead.gif Pure and simple, he'd come across as a holier-than-thou, preachy, fake-ass! Love, Lust & Lies would be contrived and highly uninteresting! Instead of focusing on what's right and wrong, the premise behind the show is examining "cause and effect". For example, we all know cheating is wrong. Why beat that dead horse? Isn't it much more productive to explore what causes someone to cheat, and the effects of their infidelity? Michael Baisden's show serves a much higher purpose, and delves deeper below the surface, by EXAMINING certain issues, rather than just playing judge and juror...

Peace,
HML

I agree that Baisden is a bit of a bore. I realize that being on live radio has sever time constraints but sometimes he's just plain rude and hangs up on people who don't agree with him.

Nevertheless, I've slipped in there a couple of times on a Mad Issue Monday and a discussion about religion.

You gotta give credit to anyone who provides a forum for discussion by a typically under-represented part of the population. There's a lot of Tom-foolery, but I think some enlightening and healing has been done as well.

As far as Nicole is concerned, she is in definite need of emotional healing and support. Along with being tragic, what's she's doing is against the law. I believe it's "Wreckless endangerment" possibly with a "depraved indifference" component. (Watching all those eps of Law & Order is finally paying off!!) Seriously, I believe there was at least one such case only a couple of years ago with a guy from Upstate NY who was doing the same thing. I think he's still in jail.
